LGB Uintah #51 Motor Wiring

I am converting LGB Uintah #51 back to track power from Locolinc and battery power. What is the correct colored wire to connect to each numbered position in the photo? I lost the diagram I made when I did the initial conversion.

I can’t figure out how to post a photo. I am trying to figure out the wiring for the two plugs that go into the voltage regulator board. Let’s try it verbally. There are four wires yellow, green, brown and white. What is the oder they enter the plug from left to right? Post a photo if you have one.

Check the name of your jpeg. No unusual charecters and no spaces.
Rename if needed.
Ralph

Ok. I got the photo to post. Thanks Ralph. So what color wires go into the numbered spots? Any help would be appreciated. [image]

Anybody know where I might be able to get a wiring diagram for this locomotive?

Dear Ed,

How hard is it to get that view? I have a friend that has a #51, he may take a look if it is not too difficult…

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Lemme look in the junk piles.
I got a 51 guts in a box somewhere in the shop.

Drawings?
Yes I have them in PDF form.
PM me thru LSC and I’ll send one to you.

Joe,
It’s a PITA to get a Uintah apart.

Joe: It is a lot of work to get to the photo I have shown.

John: I would appreciate you looking. If the drawings you have are the 9 page pdf that show the exploded views of this loco; I already have it. Page 9 is the one with the detail. It clearly shows the wiring to the motor block but not to the plugs. If you have something else please send it to me. I will PM you.

Ed

I’ll send what I have.

Yellow and green are motor power leads and if backwards, your engine would just run backwards compared to other engines.

You are right. Since this was initially posted I found the answer, re-connected the wires and everything runs fine.

My locomotive is an early model (pre 1997). In the early models the wiring is: 1-white 2-brown 3-yellow 4-green.

In later models the wiring is the traditional LGB scheme: 1-yellow 2-white 3-brown 4-green.

I got this from Silvergate Distributors the old LGB USA operation in San Diego Ca.

Ed.
I think you will find it is actually the other way around.
The early models had three wires.
The later models had four wires to accomodate DCC capabilities.

Well here is what Silvergate had to say. I am no expert so I followed their directions:

"I am pretty sure that yellow goes to the outside contact (pin 4).

I will probably be yellow - white - brown - green .

The old-style Uintah gearbox has the motor wires (yellow & green) running next to each other. The Sumpter Valleys, (in the traditional LGB way), were ordered yellow - white - brown - green. "

I am the original owner of mine. I bought it when they first came out so I know it is an “old style” Unitah gearbox and it has four wires.
