LGB Trolley wheels spin

I have one of the LGB Christmas trolley sets. When the powered unit is pulling the wheels spin in some of the turns (not all and surprisingly the R3s). However, when pushing there is no problem.

Any suggestions?

Tim,
not an issue I have seen before on the trolleys, but as the powered trolley is only designed to pull one trailer then sufficient weight only is designed in the car for this purpose. In so far as the pushing/pulling, then relate to a front-wheel drive car as opposed to a rear-wheel drive car. A front-wheel drive will wheelspin more readily, as power is applied, as when the power is applied the weight is transferred off the driving wheels and transposed to the non-driving wheels (rear wheels). Similarly, when a trolley is powered up, the onboard weight is seemingly transferred, reducing the weight on the trolley drive wheels (front-wheel drive). When the trolley is pushing the trailer car, then the weight remains over the powered wheels (rear-wheel drive), thus aiding traction.

As the powered trolley is most likely in the lead, then additional weight may be required to correct the 'problem'.

Sure…that all makes sense. However, this is LGB and LGB track and the configuration is how it is designed to operate. Obviously something is not right here. Also, my other LGB Trolley set does not do this.

Maybe something with an oily substance got on the wheels. Did you try cleaning the wheels. Does it have pick up shoes. My little LGB Porter had same issue like that and it turned out the shoes would catch causing it to slip. I just added a touch of oil to the front of the shoe and now works great. I also added oil to the springs on the shoes to help give better flex up and down on the shoes. For some reason the shoes were putting to much pressure on the rails and hanging up on the joints, causing the slip

Shawn… that was the issue. I cleaned up the wheels, shoes and put a dab of oil on the shoe springs as all is well.

Thanks!

Somebody told me to use WD-40 to clean up the fly wheel on my MGA. It hasn’t run right since.
