I’ve been following your mine car thread. what amount of time and cost to do this one at the library?
Not sure any libraries around me have 3D printers, looks like a very promising technology for modeling!
Mark, I’d be very curious to know how pliable or brittle the plastic is. Have you tried any destructive testing to determine how forgiving this stuff is, or if it will melt into Velveeta if left in the sun too long?
Mike, the mine cars took about 45 min per piece for the frame and tub, hubs took 15min each
I was able to use 2 printers at once so 1 hr each for the ore cars
This project is a complete thingiverse file, not my design. the base frame for this project took about 70 minutes each, which i printed the same time as the mine cars,
the deck for this project took 2 hours, however the majority of that it because the base is so damn big, I believe I can make a car much lighter and quicker to print then this car.
while this was printing I also printed a complete mine car, the stakes, all the hubs for the mine car, and 1 bogie
this bogie took 30 minutes to print, the area that is blemished is because of a “reverse face” on my sketchup drawing, which I already corrected (I hope) the other are that messed up was also in the design, i tried to make a pocket for the springs however the 3d printer didn’t like that idear.

Vic, well ya can’t drink coffee outta these, they will melt at 160deg. (Kuerig’s hot water temp btw) however it does soften the plastic on the mine cart tubs enough to give them some dents and deformity
As far as the sun, leaving a tub out today for a few days to see what happens to it. my mine are is in the shade so not to worried about the sun with those,
I also printed out a light, will paint that tomorrow and leave that out in the sun also
the blue bogies cost .65cents
the deck frame end was 60g and heavier then it should be - total for the car should be about $15 as designed, that frame can loose a lot of weight with a simple redesign
