I have a Birhtday Car and a Chicken dance car that do not want to “perform”. I have added new batteries, but no sound. Do they need track power to do their thing? Even trying that, I get no response. Any suggestions?
Hi Bob and Welcome to a Great Forum.
I have 3 LGB sound cars and 2 of 3 need to be plugged into the back of a LGB locomotive to get their sound going. The battery supplies the juice to play the rest of the sound track for when the train stops. These 2 cars have plastic wheels. My other is a LGB diesel sound car and that one has metal wheels that have track pickups so it doesn’t need to be plugged into a engine. Most LGB engines have a little plastic part on the back to pop open and you will see the plug or in the case of a Stainz 1or 2 you will see the metal plugs on the back.
Also the sound board itself should have a little dial to control the volume. Could yours be turned down?
Good luck and Happy RRing
All of the LGB sound cars I have have a volume control and a on-off power switch.
And the battery is back-up power only, you need input power where the 2 pin screw terminal is or the 4 verticlal pins next to this terminal.
Also note that the blue chivcken dance car is MTS/DCC but does work on analog.
The red chicken dance car and engine sound cars are not MTS/DCC
Thanks for the inputs. I’m waiting to get into the guts and see what I can make happen. Will be trying out shortly.
Bob,
I went through a similar problem with my Chicken Dance car. My Stainz that I wanted to pull it with is an older one that had the 2 pin connector receptacle on the locomotive and wouldn’t mate up with the connector on the car.
I ended up replacing a wheel set with an LGB 67403 ball bearing wheel set with electric pickups. I cut the connector off the end of the power leads from the car, connected the wires to the pick up leads on the wheels set. I put it on the track & gave it power then proceeded to do the Chicken Dance. Simple stuff inside; volume wheel, on/off switch & battery connector.
Happy Rails.
Dave
LGB does make a converter cable set to mate the 2 different connectors, and I like having a sound car ties to an engine electrically, plus have power pick up on the car.
Trains run better with more power pickups.
