Does anyone know the answer(s)? The LGB Mogul #22182 2-6-0 has a wood pile over the tender, can this be changed to
the LGB coal pile? Other moguls have the back up light, can it be added to the mogul tender without the back up light?
Thank You

Ed,
anything is possible, except converting your flared tender to a coal load. The basic tender moulding is the same for both wood pile and coal load tenders. The difference lays in the removable tender deck moulding. The coal load is a plastic moulding and slightly shorter in length. If you are thinking of converting your tender to a coal load along with the raised bunker sides, then this is do-able and will also give you the rear tender light. If you simply want a coal load onto your flared sided tender then I would look at other alternatives to simulate your coal.
I would just use real coal to replace the wood. It will look ten times better that way.

Thanks gentlemen for the info on the coal load opposed to wood. Sounds good. Is the LGB rear tender deck light still possible? Did LGB have “knock outs” for the light install, or is the tender deck for the light available from one of the LGB parts suppliers?
Thanks

The attached parts lists will show the differences between your tender and the tender with a coal load:

I believe Train-Li is the current importer of LGB products:

Also I would suspect Watts Trains may have a quantity of LGB parts.

As you can tell by the parts lists there is no separate rear deck for your tender - you would have to replace the entire deck to have a factory fitting (hole) for a light. If all you want is to add a light I have a light housing minus the light and wiring that you could add to your existing rear deck.
The light with wires should be available from Train-Li or other sources.
I’ve converted some coal loads to wood and vice versa but that was when LGB of America was still in business and had the parts available. Now that Marklin has a Mogul back in their product line new parts will hopefully become available if they are not now.
If you need just the light housing drop me an email offline. It should be easy to retrofit if you can cut the hole for it (I’m all thumbs).
A couple of minor issues are that the coal burners normally had a narrow smokestack while the wood burners had a balloon stack. These are usually not interchangeable as they have different length smoke boxes. Also the fireman for coal has a shovel while the fireman for wood has a piece of wood. The shovel/wood are glued to the fireman and can be removed.
You might get lucky and find someone with an extra tender they would want to swap or sell. I’m usually looking for spare Mogul tenders myself and once in awhile I find one.
