LGB Lake George&Boulder locomotive

Can any of you LGB guru’s out there show me an actual retail ad or catalog, or where to go to find the original price of an LGB 2119D Lake George&Boulder engine??? Curious what the engine sold for new, and also I believe has had a PH hobbies sound system installed aftermarket. Any ideas What it sold for new, and then what the sound system was or is worth??? Thanks The Regal P.S. I have one for sale but want to be fair on price???, and move it!!

I do NOT want an E-Bay price!!

If it has a PH sound, they need to pay you to take it off their hands (the sound system…)

Must not be PH then cause it’s a (to me) quality sound system not like that in the colo/so. LGB engine that one sure isn’t quality in my estimation anyway, this one has good quality sound go to my webpage and you can hear the engine run on you tube see what you think curmudgeon. I’ve looked in tender to see what was there and can’t tell from what I see nobody seems to know what sound system it does have, check it out see if you know. thanks http://blueregal.angelfire.com/

Sure sounds like P-nix.
They have a distinctive square wave (slap-on, slap-off) whistle.

Jerry,
That is a fairly old engine. It was made in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I can’t remember what the original retail was but I paid $250 for mine in 1994.

What were you smokin’ Larry? or were those Speedos restricting your circulation? -brian

Jerry,
I recently purchased an as new/unused #2119D, installed with a very decent sounding PH sound unit (it surprised me the quality of the sound unit) on American eBay for $295.00 USD ‘Buy it Now’. I considered it a fair price. Some idiots have supposedly ‘as new’ (funny how test run usage marks the driver wheels) #2119D for $450 - $500. There is simply no way that a #2119D should sell for more than around $350 maximum in as new condition. Unless the sound is a recognised unit, then it would not add to the expected price.

For interest, in 1993, Watts Train Shop had the #2119D, in limited supply, for $410.25. Also the 1993 #21181 'D&RG' Mogul (non-sound), listed for $537.50. They were also offering top dollars paid for early moguls (#2018D $700.00 and #2028D $625.00) for those wishing to sell their locomotives. My Watts price list is current for 20th April, 1993.

Here is a picture of the belly of the beast, or at least as far as I wanted to go to see what was there, see if some of you guys, or gurus would like to speculate, and let me know. 'The Regalhttp://

Well what is it???????????????????????????????????????????? Curmudgeon say's it sounds like one does it walk and talk like one???????????????????

I have no idea.
Pnx and Sierra look similar. A board about 1" by 2.5" with a bunch of electronics on it.
Sierra has a couple of programming buttons on it.

OK, I just looked at the video.
It Definitely aint a px!

You have one chuff per about 1.5 revs of the driver.
If it was a pnx and it doesn’t have any reed switches under the tender, it wouldn’t chuff at all.
A Sierra would chuff with or without reeds, but without the reeds it would chuff a lot more than that.

It could be a cheap LGB board taken out of a another loco or sound car. They have a similar volume pot.
Some one has wrapped it with shrink wrap.
Take that off and take a picture of the board.
Then TOC will identify it.

Brian, 2119D’s were Moguls w/o sound. Longer than the porter you pictured and in yellow, like the speedo!

Im not a big LGB fan because of the price but Its a nice little engine and makes for a great kit bash. Does anyone else make similar engines like this? Im guessing this is a porter. I like the one I have from the LGB value starter set as well. That one was priced more reasonable at under $140. My local hobby store has one more set been there for a while. It is tempting to buy. If i didnt get more track from aristo I would have bought it.

The only other one that I know of is made by Accucraft and goes for about $350.

The two black shrink wrapped items are the LGB #65011 Stationary Sound Storage Capacitors. The volume control is a LGB part from their latest digital sound units. The coloured wire leading to the underside of the tender is LGB #65012 bell/whistle trigger reed switches, mounted to the forward truck. The actual sound unit is not pictured but most likely LGB #65001 American Steam unit.

There is also two sets of wires going up under the coal load. I believe the LGB digital sound unit is up under the coal load.

thanks tim, a picture of said engine is in the classifieds here and not the porters being discussed and pictured here!!

Also if someone is interested I am entertaining reasonable offers, I think I probably paid a LITTLE too much for it when I purchased it maybe not. Not sure yet its listed in the classifieds also may consider interesting trade. Looking for 6ft sect of track or cash QSI system g-wire, and engine program disc from QSI $80

Jerry,
if LGB digital sound fitted, then a reasonable asking price would be around $375.00, assuming in as new condition with minimal usage. The LG&B is one of my favourite moguls (I still have two in definately new condition and another fitted with the simple LGB chuff only sound board. I like my LG&B moguls). I collect only, preferring not to run any of my collection.

I paid NEW $350 on the Old LGB frequent buyers club card deal. That was a LONG time ago and the loco’s only been run once or twice at holidays. In storage ever since.
