Thanks Ken!

That’s a pretty nice update from LGB.

As a custom painter I see a lot of opportunities to easily make unique items for myself or others. The USRA Mike is still calling out to me…hopefully this will be the year!

I pre ordered the Olomana almost a year ago. I hope that my order is still in. Its nice to see that LGB hasn’t forgotten about making it. Any idea when it just might, possibly, maybe, could, show up?

Edit, I just checked my account, and its still showing as ordered.

Yeah I hear ya Greg. Narrow gauge ALCo meets standard gauge EMD(ish). Ah well, its a great runner and looks much better running on many G gauge layouts than option B. On the other hand, you could get several full length SD40-2s or maybe even SD45s if you can find them for the same price.

I thought the same thing Greg.

Yes, the more manufacturers the better, but calling that thing with the Alco nose an SD-45 is just wrong.

You would think they could have at least made the length of the nose right, it would have been simple and it would also have made the front deck longer, more prototypical.

LGB would NEVER use this messed up proportions on European prototypes.

Greg

Greg, I wonder if they have ever even seen North American locomotives.

It seems to be a cobbling together of old parts. I won’t buy one because it looks like a toy. Too bad, we need all the new product we can get.

It really is a shame, where they might get snapped up if they looked close to right.

Greg

Gee Greg, I thought that maybe some of the LGB products were supposed to look like caricatures.

Greg, not so much “old parts” as an old loco. That loco was introduced 25 years ago as part of the “Queen Mary” series, inspired by kit bashing seen at the old Queen Mary show. It was never supposed to represent a real loco. The only thing thats changed is what the currently call it.

George

Oh, so someone “found” the molds, and decided to put it back into production?

So this is the old “alligator” or whatever it was called?

I seem to remember that was a longer loco with an even more pronounced snout.

I found a picture of it:, you are right George, it is the LGB 22562 Alco, of the Queen Mary series.

Takes some big ones to call an Alco an EMD product.

Alco, EMD, Baldwin, Fairbanks Morris…whats the difference? They are all dismals. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Hrmm the SP unit has ALCO style shutters at the end of the long hood, while the ATSF unit seems to have a more typical EMD hood with locker doors all the way. Are there really two more sets of molds for the faux version of the ALCO?

There’s nothing wrong with a fantasy prototype engine every once in a while…maybe even more so in largescale. The only complaint I have is that the model is a bit expensive. For $200 or so, it would be a fun project to kitbash.

It looks like someone Photoshopped the top of the QM series diesel (grilles, dynamic brakes, etc.) on top of the original Alco long hood from the White Pass version of this. If this is new tooling on this long hood, couldn’t they have instead re-tooled the cab to make the wide-nose version of the WP Alco? That would have been prototypical. Maybe that’s next, then they can combine the wide nose cab with this re-tooled long hood and call it an SD-70. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

All kidding aside, good to see new stuff hitting the market (even repaints).

Later,

K
