LGB Forney

I have an LGB Forney that is grumpy!

It only has 10 hours of running time but now it has an electrical problem.

It got stuck in a USA switch on the club layout. I figured it was due for a cleaning on the wheels and power pickups. I cleaned them with acetone but that didn’t help. I didn’t get a manual with it so I don’t know where the problem might be. If I give it a nudge it runs for 10-20 feet before it stops, Another nudge and it runs again for 10-20 feet before it stops again. It used to run great at low speed but not anymore.

Does anyone have a thought and how to take it apart?

Doug,
try this site for disassembly. You say that it got ‘stuck’ on a switch. did it short out the switch, indicating a possible burn trace on the circuit board. What vintage Forney (roadname?) - German or Chinese?

Doug before you take it apart try putting a little oil on the pick-up shoes. All my LGB’s did this especially at joints it would studder. The shoes would catch the joints and switches. A little oil and it helps them slide over it. Also look at the brushes on the wheels. One of mine got stuck and was not touching the wheel causing poor performance.
