I have a LGB 90012 cable car set and I can’t believe it but my wife has given me the OK to set it up in a awesome spot this Christmas. If that is I can figure out the engineering for it. The base unit will be mounted on a 7.5 foot pole and the end unit attached to the second floor balcony. The length of run will be about 25 feet. I know that I need to keep the angle at 45 degree or under and to keep the tension on the lines just right so as not to put to much pressure on the base unit. But can I go this distance of 25 feet without some sort of extra supports? What is the furthest length you cable car fans have gone with their setups???
This could be the start of something cool in Christmas display setups at my house. If it can be done.
Well I did it adn here is a photo to prove it. So far it has been a hit for visitors who say “wow neat” and then they look at me like I’m nutz. The run starts in the corner of the room about 8’ off the ground then travels roughly 30 feet up to the loft. for lights I put tiny battery powered tea lights in the cars. The lines just clear the ceiling fan blades. Fun Merry times Ho Ho Ho.

Spectacular.
Thanks guys, The cable car set up was a hit for the holiday visitors. My sisters 18 month old was mesmorised that is until she saw the train going around the tree. She was giggling and pacing back and forth to see it go out of sight behind the tree then to watch it emerge from behind a pile of presents.
Fun times. Maybe she is a railroad gal in training?
Todd,
Maybe, you should open next Christmas to compete with Snow’s! Where did you get the LGB cable car set-up? I looked at the US types for sale on Train-Li. They were not too expensive. But, the I like look of the LGB cars much better.
