LGB 41770 logging disconnects: what scale?

I guess these are no longer available, although I have not kept up with the drifting away of LGB products.

What scale are they considered to be? To me, then seem somewhere between 1:29 and 1:20.

?

Lastly, what are all of you buying for disconnects from any current source? (If any)

Thanks,

Dennis

All that makes sense. Thank you.

I tried to find the seller, Greenhouse Garden Supply, on ebay, until I realized I don’t know their seller i.d. or how to find them.

What do they sell under?

Cheers,

Dennis

Dennis,

I wouldn’t bother with the LGB units unless you need something smaller…The AMS disconnects are stunning in their detail and can often be found for less than the LGB units. Kidman’s has them for a reasonable price. And I believe they are even a sponsor of LSC.

The other place you asked about…

Currently much higher than Kidmans.

Thanks to you both for your help. Here’s my full story…more or less. Several years ago I too, bought a 3-pack of the LGB disconnects. At that time Jeff Saxton, I think it was, had been offering a detail set for these trucks. Jeff had ceased making them but he and I had been in communication over some Climax details when I was finishing the book for publication. Anyway, Jeff found some leftover parts and sent them to me. So I completed the LGB upgrade with pleasing results. I will say the LGB product always looked lightweight to me, but they came out looking roughly like Seattle Car prototype which was what I was after. Good enough I guess. Jeff’s parts and Sierra Valley wheels made a big difference.

I posted this question/thread because I’m thinking of adding a few more…of something. Plus for my immediate needs I want something to put under my piledriver. And that will require a husky disconnect.

Then, after reading your comments, I went down in the basement and began digging through my LS stuff. Behold, behind some boxes … there was a new set of AMS disconnects I had forgotten I ever bought. And they ARE nice, just as you say.

So now I need to modify them with a longer, “bunk,” to span the wide frame of the pile driver. The AMS detail is so good the chocks look like they might move, but they don’t. So I’ll probably create a, “logger’s shop built,” beam for my purposes.

Thanks again; sorry for the long post. I’ll check your sources for more AMS units.

I think the correct phrase is that they are “Gummie Scale,” i.e. they can be whatever scale you want them to be. If you are really intent on knowing, measure them, pick a scale, then do the math. If that is satisfactory, you have found your scale.

I really think that they are “Suitable for G Gauge,” as it says on some boxes.

I added a little paint to my LGB units.

They do look great with that paint! Nice work Sean!

I am far from anti-LGB having a significant amount of it (though I confess to selling a greater amount to fund my 1:20.3 stuff). That said, the AMS disconnects are well above the LGB ones. They are heavier, track better, look better.

Should send mine to Sean for paint!

Sean:

Nice looking work. Really does make a difference.
