LGB #2051 - Motor Power Units?

Please help. I have LGB #2051 diesel engines, recently, one ran with only the front power truck moving. I presumed the motor worn out & needed replacing. The motor (?) number(s) are 2051-1 in the front & 2051-11 in the rear. My question, is the actual motor (?) 62201 inside the aforementioned 2051-1 & 2051-11? In fact, I have one #2051 with a 2051-1 in the front & 2051-1 in the rear.

Thanks much,
Ed Engle

Ed,
the #2051 uses the generic short shaft motor (#62201). If an early model with the ball thrust bearing at each end of the motor shaft, when installed, then discard the balls if using a recent ball-bearing replacement motor. Your problem may not be associated with a failed motor. You will need to disassemble and check the condition of the suspect motor. A couple of days ago, I overhauled one of my early 1970’s #2095 OBB diesel. Due being a very early model, the power supply wires are soldered to the motor block (one motor lead had separated). I overhauled both drive blocks, resoldered the motor lead and the unit ran perfectly. The Buhler motors are bulletproof but not perfect and failures do rarely occur.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply, I will recheck.
