LGB 2051 Diesel - Repaint, disasembly

Please help. I have an LGB 2051 B-B diesel that I would like to repaint
and decal to the PRSL RR. Has anyone taken a 2051 apart? Thanks.
This “Large Scale Central” website is just great, with the forum areas, etc. Very informative.

I searched with google and found this with my search

lgb 2051-1.pdf is the file name

http://www.modeltrainforum.com/showthread.php?t=2974 is the site with many manuals

https://www.champex-linden.de/cl_downloads.htm more downloads, not in English

I have one open at the moment.
There are 8 screw points underneath although there were only 4 screws present on mine.
The body will then lift off but wires are attached.
The trucks get in the way a little to get at the screws.
If you have a analog sound version 2051S there is a 9 volt battery inside.

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the LGB 2051-1 diagrams where it shows the screw positions,
they are numbered #52, & it shows 8 screw positions. When I turn the 2051 over, I see only
6 screw holes, not 8. Andrew, did you use a special screw driver or just take your time removing the screws because they are in such a tight position to remove? Thanks much for your help.

Ed

Ed, actually I had 6 screws present. I just used a jewelers screwdriver which you can fit directly above, down in a small gap on the inside corner of the truck. 2 screws are accessible by turning the truck and 2 of the eight screw positions are more central to the truck just behind the rear of the cab. They were probably the ones that were missing screws on mine as they are more difficult to find but accessible in the same way.

Andrew

Andrew,

Thank you, so my first stepis to get a jewlers screw driver, sorry to be redundant, but I have only seen the 6 screw positions. When I looked at the diagram, it showed the 6 I saw, 2 at the center, then 4 more,
2 each at the front area of the front & rear truck. (down in a small gap on the inside corner of the truc). Hopefully, I have it right now? Thanks much.

Ed

Hi Andrew,

I ran into a problem with disassembling, I removed the 6 screws & I can’t remove the hoods & cab,
did I miss other screws that should come out? Thanks much.

Ed

Andrew,

You mentioned in your post @9:58am EDT (here) that two of the screw positions are more central to the truck just behind the cab. Are these hidden, do you have to remove something to see them?

Thanks much,

Ed

They are very hard to see. About 1/2" behind the cab into the base of rear engine cover (short one). Poke the screwdriver just in front of the electrical pickup on the truck. Magnetize your screwdriver of use something sticky to hold the screw to get them back in.

Andrew

I think the 2 that are hard to see were missing their screws on mine for obvious reasons, I can’t remember where they all came from now. I can see the holes by holding the locomotive directly under a bright light or torch and peering through the truck just in front of the electrical slider pickup. Move the truck about a little. It is very pokey to see them.

Andrew

Andrew,

I’m stuck, I have removed the six screws, I see no others. I tried to remove the front hood, cab & the rear hood with negative results. How did you remove them? Was it hard to do?

I wanted to tell you that several years back, I repinted the engine & I’m quite sure I just taped the cab windows, & the bottom frame. I may end up doing that again.

Did you find the hard to find ones? You need to swivel the rear truck a little before you can see them.

Andrew

Your previous paint job may have also ‘glued’ the body onto the chassis.
Run a sharp blade around the join once all of the 8 screw points have no screws in them.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I will try try as you suggested, using a sharp blade. However, I was only able to locate six screws.
Thanks much,

Ed

Andrew,

Just saw your photo, that greatly helps!
Thank You
Ed
