LGB 2046 Lighting Troubles

I bought one of these off ebay in essentiually unused condition, no evidence of wear on the skates… .

. When it runs “Backwards” with the pantograph trailing behind, the cab lights up along with the three rear “headlights”. Only one of the “front” headlights lights up…This is just as any LGB rhb loco operates. When I put it in the “forward direction” one of the front lower headlights along with one of the rears lights very dimmly, barely a glow. I know it’s a long shot…Any one have any ideas? I will return it if I need to but I’d preffer to save both the seller and myself a lot of trouble. Thanks! In other words, when it runs in the reverse direction everything works as it should…When it runs forward the lights do not function properly.

Never mind…I found a source for a complete set of PCB boards, cheap! Rather than trouble-shoot and then try to locate a component I can just gut the whole thing and replace it all.

I have wanted a COG engine for a while, not giving up yet!

It is a bad transistor/mosfet for the light problem. Sometimes the etch breaks in that engine as the heat sink uses the 220 device legs to hold it and it hits the motor on assemble and fractures an etch.

I have fixed several of these boards with these 2 issues.

Dan, interesting. I figured a transistor but have nothing to trouble-shoot with. I will take a look at the conductors in this area and check for breaks. I did order a full set of boards, I assumed it was in the main board but this was not available as a seperate unit (odd, the two lighting boards were).

I think I’ve had to repair 15% of the stuff I buy on ebay, which may sound horrible but honestly I have to repair about 5% of the stuff I buy NIB!

Thanks for the help!
