LGB 2007 Train List Delayed

From the LGB Club Forum:

“The situation at the new Lehmann is still unsettled, and the delivery
situation is unclear. For that reason, LGBoA is not going to announce
new LGB items or prices until the beginning of April. However, we have
had very useful talks with Mr. Schöntag, and no matter what happens in
Nürnberg, LGBoA will make sure that LGB lives and thrives.”

This doesn’t sound good for North American Train Buffs.

I think some turmoil and delay of new products is to be expected after an insolvency.

Well Marvin,

Who signed off on that piece of spin??

Get ready for the “frank and open discussions and exchanges of views”!

“LGBoA will make sure that LGB lives and thrives.”

Really?

Boy, if that won’t open a can of worms, discussion-wise, I don’t know what else will…unless it’s what’s on the paperwork…

Hey, Walsham…LGBoA!

Dave,

It is certainly a change from the “deliveries and service is completely normal” routine which was served up the past few months.

Kind of hard to imagine that the situation vis a vis LGBoA is unresolved if you consider the following:

a) E.P. Lehmann GmbH & Co. KG has, from what has been re-emphasized again and again, only one trading partner in NA - LGBoA

b) in which case it would simply be a matter of “transfer the money - we send the goods” both out of Nürnberg and/or China

c) I haven’t heard of a similar situation except in instances where either the one or the other party tried some fast footwork and was subsequently caught flat footed (not up to Mr. Bojangles’ standards!).

Interesting!

Dave,

Yesterday I received an email with this link http://www.shopatron.com/index/394.0 and the question “Do you know these guys??”

Yet once more, INTERESTING!

So, LGBoA is competing with their dealers?

Wow!

And if you consider the www.spotteddeer.com it would appear in more than one way.

I keep telling you dudes. Just follow the money and all will be revealed.

They are going to do whatever they need to do to survive. If the LGB dealer we have here in town is typical of a majority of LGB dealers, then there is no competition. They talk N, HO and On30. If you model any other scale then go take a hike. They carry a dab of LGB and as far as other LS, only on RARE occasion they get one item in. The only real competition out there is places like St Aubins Watts, and Ridge Road. I’d say that over all there is about a half dozen stores in the US that actually sell enough LGB to even make it worth while.

The New Rules from LGBoA to become a dealer have changed regarding selling LGB/G-45 goods... No stocking requirements and only $1,000.00 to "open up"!

And there is a plan being developed to build trains in North America (I didn’t say the U.S.)…

Marvin,

That last sentence is interesting!

BTW that $1000 sounds good, the problem is how much do you get for that and what are the dealer discounts etc. etc.? As long as putting $1000 in a GIC returns more than having LGB on the shelf or in the “we can get it”… hmmmm? The eXtra concept in Germany meant drastically cut margins for the dealers - a selling commission is the better word. Add to that the buying resistance of the consumer since there were no more discounts and things were not “the cat’s meow”!

OTOH I’ll be following how that Online Shop concept develops.

This is my “make me rich” plan…but with mostly only grey hair seen at the train shows…and they are on fixed retirement income, so limited buying from them…and with the poor recruitment of new, young blood into the hobby…there goes my fortune.
