LGB 0-4-0 Bash and RC

A while back Ralph Berg and I made a little trade, this is what I wound up with:

Now most of you know I really dig “little” engines, and this one was delivered just a week or so after I got my LGB Saddle tank 0-4-0… Last week we had some “warm” weather and I got out and sprayed a few coats of Semi-Gloss on the loco:

I thought this would look pretty good-it wasn’t long ago that Shawn painted his black and what a change it’s made to both the locos. Poor Photos throughout this post?! The thing about little locos is there’s sometime not enough room for the Batteries and RC Gear, so a tender is in order. This is my first Styrene Endeavor…I pressed rivets in from the rear for some added detail:

and another view showing the compartment for the batteries. The RC gear will go on-board the Loco. I’ll be using an EVO from RCS and a Futaba radio. This will be a “kids” loco.

based upon no specific proto, and built upon a HLW mini flat. I hope to finish the tender up over the next few weeks and then begin the RC install. cale

Looking good so far Cal. It is a great little engine and you will be very happy with it. It looks great with a load of log flats behind it. Im also building a tender for mine. Something sim to yours. I really got to get moving on converting to simple battery power. Just a basic switch and maybe a speed control. Something that does not cost a lot and is simple to hook up. So much to do and not enough time. Here is what I did to mine for those that missed it (I think it needs a little more weathering)

…need to take some finished shots now that its all painted and weathered

Nice work on that tender so far, Cale! Neat little loco too. I’ll be glad when I get far enough along on my other projects to start bashing my Porters, and that Rogers. I can’t let you guys have all the fun!

Taa-Daa! Americanized!

Well there you go, not quite finished, but good enough to post-at least from a distance! I’m pretty happy with the results…I could go on about where my head is at in reference to our toy trains right now, but I’ll save you the fuss. note the stack! I think I used the one from my B-Mann Porter-Woooops? anybody have a spare?

The little booger will run for near 2-2.5 hours before it needs charging. It runs like a top, and we’ve got 2 more 0-4-0 LGB locos to convert!

The radio range is Incredible (no surprise) with the EVO. Against Dr.'s orders, it’s powered by 12v in the Tender. The Simplicity of this little loco makes it soooo much fun for the kids and I. I see me drifting towards 1:24-1:22.5 … simple, fun little engines that the kids and I can enjoy!

above is our next EVO powered project, battery on board and painted Pink and Purple with a “PINK CABOOOOSE!”. weird thing about this one, it appears to need a traction tire on the rear engineers side?

Nice job, Cale. Loco looks good with the new paint, stack and tender.
I’m glad “Columbus” is working out for you.
“Annie” runs excellent, but still needs a headlight.
Ralph

Small loks are the go.
Always have been, always will be.

Congrats. Nicely done.
Kit bashing is so satisfying.

What a difference Cal. You did a great job on it and I love the tender with it. Porters are great. I would get another one if the price was right.

Shawn you have mail
