when i see THAT smoke in this winter landscape, i can understand, why you accept burnt fingers.
Great video Eric
Terrific MOW equipment guys.
Here is a video I made today of my latest MOW car a track cleaning/ drying car that follows behind the Centerline track cleaner.

Cool!
OK so I have to admit when I started this thread I had some interest in building an MOW consist. But I didn’t think I would be so inspired to start. But that was stupid thinking I know. So this car was posted by Rick Marty
and I fell in love. I had a Lil Hauler combine that was begging to be bashed. And when I saw this I knew where it would go. So I decided to make a crane boom car/foreman’s car.
So the coach is the Bachmann lil hauler. The trucks are normal Bachmann arch bars. Kadee body mount couplers. The rest is handmade. Fun little car next will be a small steam crane car to go with it.
Still want to add an Ozark K brake kit and some tools chain odds and ends to the flat car area and then a desk stove and bed in the coach part for the foreman
Well, Devon, that’s just great. I love it.
I’m going to be honest with you though, I like the pale green-colored wood on the prototype much better than your red. In fact, I think the green pulls all the reds together and complements them at the same time.
Still, really good work and I just may have to copy you and make one for myself.
Devon,
Sweet car idea and great craftsmanship. Be careful though if you keep up this kind of thing you will lose your reputation as a ditherer and become known as a builder (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Good job guy.

Well I am not repainting it now. . .(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) I actually am not thrilled with the color either.

Well it was a great idea and since your car inspired it you get the credit. I just copied the main idea.
Really a great build. Well done grasshopper. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Oh YES!! I DO like that Devon…
You could try weathering the car to tone down the color.
Nice start!
Everything is inside for winter storage. MOW equipment on the 2nd shelf and a rotary in the back on the third shelf:
Rotary OM close up (converted to battery power…but still needs a loco to push it):
And some older action shots. Rotary OM out on the line:
Flanger move (and crane in background):

That is already toned down quite a bit. It has a heavy over spray of flat black. It was a much brighter red than I thought it was supposed to be. I was hoping for more of a red oxide. But My story is that it is a coach and it was painted brightly when it was in coach service now it is just a dingy remnant of its former self. I live with it. I didn’t even notice when it was running around the track.
Devon,
I thought the coloration is just fine. I like your build a lot.

Its just a bit too red. I like the red oxide look better. But since it is an old coach and not an old box car I guess it is appropriate. Like I said I am not repainting it now.
This is model is loosely based (as all my models are) on a hand crane that I saw at the National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide South Australia.
These cranes were used fairly extensively throughout Australia in the early days before mechanisation took over.
The model is built on a wooden flat car kit that I buy from Sri Lanka (Ebay seller Pasidump), the gears are from an old printer and a child’s toy.
A bit of a thread drift for a moment, the museum has a train known affectionately as the "Tea and Sugar) it had a post office (agent for the commonwealth bank a gov owned entity at the time), a butcher shop wagon, a grocery shop wagon along with other specialty wagons. Its purpose was to travel the line stopping at the “gangers” camps to pay them and let their wives do the grocery shopping etc.
That’s a cool little crane car. I like the printer parts I have a box full of them from a printer and a DVD player.
That Tea and Sugar train would be fun to model. Unique for sure That is very interesting to read about. It had a long service. 1917-1996. very cool. Thanks for sharing
