Let there be light on the Pennsylvanian

Hey Y’all; Got some things happening on those first G gauge trains I’ve ever had. Of course they aren’t going to be left box stock - ask Kathy about my HO, On30 and Gn15 trains! Starting with the PRR passenger set, loco is getting some parts repainted more to my taste. See http://forrestandhismuse.blogspot.com/2009/09/thisn-aint-box-stock-any-more-either.html Now, it’s time to start thinking about putting better and more lights in these jokers. Cars and loco both. Loco: The ‘dim bulb’ headlight GOW bulb has to go. LEDs, whether white (bluish) or white (yellowish) are a must-have in my book. Loco will also get lamps or lanterns for class lights. As a start have now opened up headlight casting.

It’s all glued together and doesn’t want to seem to let go, which makes for interesting work without damaging lens. Now, to figure out the rest of the project. Main illumination will be with 5mm white LED stripped from Christmas lights. Seems to be about 3 volts rated. Have a fitting made from a 5mm LED using for a reflector a reamed out 4mm aluminum funky concave RC car washers for flathead screws from Racers Edge - those been lifted from another project for the PRR loco. (they also have 3mm washers for if I was using 3mm LED) http://www.racers-edge.com/Metric_Hardware_Welcome_to_Racers_Edge_com_s/120.htm This assembly is small enough to fit way up front behind Bachmann lens with a 3mm led behind to light number boards on side of HL casting. But, will have to shim out from reflector to fit inside HL casting.
