Leaf Blowing Accident on the RR

The other day I was blowing leaves from the yard and Rail Road and I didn’t notice that the guys forgot to pick up a boxcar from a siding and in all the leaf blowing madness the car ended up on the roof!

The Blue Crew was dispatched yesterday to take the crane train down to the site, remove the boxcar and bring it back to the yard for repairs. I recorded the job and put together a video of the action.

Wow! An impressive leap! What a fun video.

Todd,

🫡 Love the video!

What a lesson in preparedness. I think I can speak for most of us, that something like that would shut down our railroad and that the goods car would be there for months.

I did note that you used munchkin labour in the process… did you find any legs with white and red striped stockings sticking out from under the boxcar during the recovery process? :woman_mage:

Were any of the Bachman gears that the car was carrying get damaged? I keep reading here that they are quite fragile .

Thanks John and Bill.

It’s tough to have a RR this time of year in New England. There is no popping out to run a quick train without first cleaning the track of leaves. I have a railbroom and a blower for that but when the leaves pile up too much, the big blower has to come out.

Yep the Smurf’s work the RR. They are known as the Blue Crew.
No wicked witches were harmed in the making of this video.
The Bachmann gears made it out uncracked.

Really fun video, enjoyed the “action”.
Notice that maybe the crane boom hit the drain pipe, not sure.
Also, i loved the GHA (giant hand action) helping to get the box car off the roof. Some would have done that and skipped the video, but you? NO! You made it fun!

Me too!

“Don’t pay any attention to the man behind the curtain!” -Wizard of Oz.

You have a keen eye Bruce. Yes the boom hit the drain pipe and yes that was the GHA. I thought I had kept it out of frame but when I was editing there it was. It was a pivotal scene so I had to leave it in. I don’t want to ruin the story but the GHA had a major hand in the boxcar finding its way onto the roof in the first place.

Another blooper is when the long wreck flat is moved into position. The GP38, the only engine at the site, is seen in the background. It was the GHA that pushed the flat.
Other bloopers like derailments and one time when the camera was placed on the flat and it took a tumble off were left out.

My videos are all about the Fun. I’m happy that you guys like them.

Ha! I was wondering if you’d brought a second loco to the scene for that of it was a GHA moment.
I like that your videos arent too serious, Todd. Also, your Blue Crew. Sometimes I take myself too serious, wish I was a little more like you.

Thanks John. I try to convey an idea and let the imagination fill in the rest. No matter how detailed a train might be it is still a toy/model running laps in the backyard. I do put the trains to real work from time to time and if you check out my other videos you will see them hauling firewood, collecting the harvest from the garden and the MOW clearing weeds from the main and taking them down back for dumping.

My buildings follow the idea/imagination theme as well. They do not have much detail because they need to survive not only the elements but curious critters and the blast from the full size leaf blower.

That is a very logical argument, indeed! My hope someday (when I have an outdoor railroad) is that I’ll be able to put it to use, as you do, for things like hauling in veggies from the garden. I probably got that idea from you at some point, actually. I think my buildings, again, someday, will probably end up being only-outside-when-the-railroad-is-operating type of buildings. I like details too much (not that I am very good at them of yet). Though, perhaps I’ll find a way to make a building a cozy critter home. My wife would love that. She loves all the animals.

Todd,

You know we now will want more classic movie GHA, especially since you did well with the Wizard of Oz theme.

Charlie and the Juice Factory
Gandy Dances with Wolves
Ordinary Blue People
Keeping up with the Schnables…

One time I was moving some cars at the factory that is in the video and I noticed through a window that a family of mice had taken up residence in the corner office.
I do have a few buildings that do not stay out over the Winter such as my Dunkin Donuts, the Tin barn building, horse corral and the turntable has already been put to bed. The rest stay out.

Those are great ideas Bill. Too funny.

Rumor has it a flying house and an old woman riding a broom were seen during the wind event. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
