Layout wildlife, baby deer

I was out at the layout today and heard some rustling in the gamble oaks. Then I saw a young mule deer still with its baby spots.

I tried to get closer for a better photo, but it bolted away. Then I saw the mother with another baby not too far off running away as well.

Some of the fun of having a layout out in the forest.

Post some wildlife photos taken near your layout.

Matt,

we have deer parade down the street in broad daylight. The other day one of them came right up to the house and we could watch it nibble on the greenery, practically sticking its nose up against the window. The nerve!

Bit have you taught any of these deer to run trains?

Sorry for the image quality as it was getting dark and these two are hard to capture before they hop away.

Haha we call them Jersey Rats because we have such an overpopulation of them. I have had bears eat from my bird feeder next to the layout.

It didn’t happen without pictures!

Not on the RR but a wildlife story. Yesterday showing a condo with a pool there was a small rabbit in the pool area. It came very close to us then realised we were people and jumped in the pool, swam to the tother side and hopped out. I didn’t know rabbits were such good swimmers. ?

Found on the layout last year a critter from another planet. He was about the size of my pinki.

This is about the only “wildlife” around my layout, the common cellar spider, good for getting ride of other worse spiders.

We always used to torment the “Daddy longleg” spiders when I was little. I heard recently that they’re deadly poisonous, “but they can’t bite through your skin.” So I googled. 'taint so. They have no venom.

Eeek Spiders!!!

I was hosing down some rolling stock and buildings today…yep its unfortunately layout shut down time again. And there were several creepy looking spiders living underneath them. Lots of egg sacks too.

But thankfully there are no poisonous to human spiders out here. If we were lower in elevation I can imagine there would be lots of great hiding spaces for black widows all around the layout.

I have seen many visitors to the RR, but some (like the local hawk) didn’t pose with the trains. I did manage to photographically capture some non-human visitors.

Today, I saw this “hobo” having a meal on the tracks.

Later, I saw this inchworm:

A few weeks ago I had this guy that wouldn’t leave:

And about a year ago a friend of mine made this dinosaur for me:
