Layout Software

I am a fan of current tech. I love my Solidworks and my Inventor. I was wondering if there is anything out there to model my RR other than graph paper and compass. You guys know of anything?

I like AnyRail myself.

SCARM has some nice features and it is free.

Thanks! I didn’t know I would have options.

Is there any MAC software avail.?

I use RRTrack, myself.

It will run on a MAC platform in VirtualPC or Parallels Workstation

I use RRTrack too, but if you are a Solidworks user you’ll probably find it a bit lame. It does work well though.

I wonder if I could use any of these to build a map of my layout? Any thoughts?

Could not have come at a better time, thanks for bringing this up, just starting to design my next layout.

Thanks.

I use both AnyRail and CADrail.

AnyRail can export a .dae (Collada 3-D) file, haven’t tried that yet but a test is in the works.

Biggest advantage of AnyRail? Easy learning curve and a lot of track libraries.

CADrail exports .dxf; I use that all the time when I design stuff to run on the laser.

Big advantage of CADrail? You can design anything you like (furniture, structures,1:1 projects etc.), including making up your own track libraries. The most unusual project I used it for was designing the different course configs for a cross country skiing sprint championship.

Both programs have a trial version.
