Latest kitbash - Milw Boxcar

My latest kitbash… a Milwaukee RR 40’ Horizontal Ribbed Boxcar.

Keith,
Remove (420 x 280) from the file name and make sure you don’t leave any spaces.
Ralph

Thanks Ralph,

(420 x 280) was in the original filename I uploaded. Removed it and re-uploaded. Thanks again.

Keith

Geez, Keith, where the hell have you been hidin…

I’m like a lazy gopher, I get around to poking my head out of the ground every once in a while!

Nice bash Keith. Do you care to elaborate on what you used for the basis and what you did? One of my ‘to make’ list for a while now.

Yeah, what ““hollywood”” (Dave Marconi) said…

Did some research to get more info, there were many variations of these cars with 40’ and 50’ cars, single and double doors, differnt ends/roofs/walkways/doors/lenght of ribs/etc. The model just captures the feel, no rivet counting allowed (besides, these were welded cars, no rivets to count!). Mostly I followed an article by Roger W. Holmes in the December 2009 issue of Garden Railways magazine.

Basically, take an Aristo boxcar, sand all rivets off the body and doors, sand the vertical ribs off the body (leave the ones around the perimeter of the body, make horizontal ribs with Evergreen #125 flat styrene stock and #241 half-round styrene stock, paint, dry transfers (from CDS or your favorite custom decal maker), and weather to your liking.

Hope this helps.

Keith

neat Keith… thanks for construction procedures…

that would be enough for me to work with. Thank you for the info.

Well, it's good to see you here. The more modelers, the better........;)

Nice! I’ve had that article sitting on my workbench for almost two years…And I have a ratty REA SOO box car…You may have lit the fuse! I like it, something different.

Before aging…

Now with some weathering…

Didn’t want it to look too new.

WOW, great weathering…

Dave,

I’ll be at the ECLSTS next month at least on Saturday. We’ve had our modular layout (Delaware Large Scalers/formally NorDel Large Scalers) at all the past ECLSTS in York. Since the show decided to scale back to one hall for the fall show, we volunteered to sit out. We will have the modular layout back at the Spring ECLSTS in 2012. If I don’t see you this fall, please be sure to look me up next spring.

Keith

Will do Keith.
