Latest build: Enclosed tank car

Inspired by John Le’s brine car, I thought I wanted to build one, too. I like unusual cars.

First came research. Then I found an “enclosed tank car” used to haul brine, wine, etc.

Heinz ran a small fleet of 40’ enclosed tank cars. They basically had the three or four vats inside, with access thru top hatches. This way, I wouldn’t have to worry about building the vats.

I also deviated from the exact model as to bracing and signage.

My example is a 40’ brine tank car in 1:20.3. Decals by Stan Cederleaf. Riding on PNG Andrews trucks with PNG, Ozark and homemade hardware.

Looks great John!

I really like the color.

Well done!

Hi JB,

Very nice car. I like the color and the way it looks. Did you build the other REA car too?? I really like the 40 footers.

Chuck

Nice looking car John. I like the variety of cars you’re building

Chuck,

Yes, the 40’ REA car came out of my shop as well.

Nice work, that’s a really interesting prototype, looks like you could build a one or two more to keep it company.

Aaaaand there goes another entry into my “someday” files. Thanks!

I’ll need to find me a bunch of B’mann reefer hatches… since they’re probably cheaper than Ozark hinges.

Sweet, I like it!

Cool… Beautiful looking car…

Really like that one!!!

Great looking car! Nice work.

-Kevin.

Very Cool!

Nice work John

Very cool.

Like how you weathered the wheels.

Sweet! Must have been pretty fast work, too! Really nice workmanship and beautiful paint.

MAke a master…make a mold and cast your own reefer hatches…

I forgot to rust up the trucks! Yikes, gettin’ old and senile.

Looks great John. I didn’t even notice the trucks being unpainted until you mentioned it. Pictures are great for finding mistakes :]

Awesome car! Only 56 more to go!

Fabulous job, John… Look fantastic…
