Hi All,

  1. Has anyone tried the new Kadee “Type E” couplers, and if so, what do you think of them?

  2. Can someone confirm that the Kadee 909 is the “Type E” equivalent of the Kadee 831?

Steve, I’ve been installing the new Type E Couplers… I like the appearance because the springs are hidden… they wrok as well as the old kadee’s… I haven’t bought any 909’s, so I can’t answer that…

I have a dozen pairs that Ive been putting on things. Two of my cabeese have them, and they got used at TrainOps this past September with no issues. They couple with older Kadees and AMS couplers with no issues.

So you want the new coupler, with large offset in the truck mount gear box… which is the 1909… the 909 is the coupler only.

You might want to peruse the Kadee site a bit more to familiarize yourself with the new coupler numbers. On the reliability, I beta tested these for Kadee before they went into production, they are stronger than the previous ones, (larger shank where it attaches to the jaw), stronger jaw, and the aforementioned better hidden spring. I have checked the Kadee site. The way I read it, the 1909 is the #1 scale coupler + box, whereas the #909 is the G-scale coupler + box (not just the coupler). Here’s the link. Take a look at it and see if you don’t agree:

Steve, you are correct… the 903 is the G-scale coupler only, without the box… the 909 is the G-Scale coupler & box… the 1900 series are the #1 scale couplers…

My suggestion to you is just pull the trigger and buy them, Trust me you will not regret it.

They are the best couplers out there period.

Nick, Andy, thanks. I’ve taken the plunge and ordered some 1909’s. Now I’m just waiting on delivery.
