laser cut Australian NSWGR CPH rail motor

Hi there from Australia i am currently working on kits and ready to run NSWGR CPH rail motors in gauge one just finishing off the prototype model i can be contacted by email at [email protected]

Very nice looking!

I removed what I said because it wasn’t very nice and since Bob has no problem with it. I also offered the OP my apologies in a PM and I hope he feels it is sincere because it is.

I dont have a problem with the post. Its a one-off post, and LS train related.

Well that is from the horses mouth. So if he is OK then I am OK. Thanks Bob for setting me straight and to Tod I apologize.

BTW it is a nice looking kit.

The model uses a cut down lionel G scale motor truck cut in half and shortened simple 2 channel rc and a small 3 cell lipo from a rc plane next step will be a paint job laser cutting makes assembly fast i even laser cut the bogies/ trucks need to get my hands on a heap of G scale spoked wheelsets pref metal.

Tod,

Have you used the LIPO batteries much. I have heard various things on them heating up and even catching on fire. I have no experience with them. I know the plane and cars guys use them all the time. I have talked to a car guy and he said he has heard that and even sells fire proof storage bags but has never witnessed it. Just curious what your experience is. I have been toying with LIPO or lithium ion but this has given me some pause.

Hi devon i also fly rc planes and use them alot in the 8 years of flying i have never had one explode if puffed a few in my edf jets i also have a scratch built Australian electric locomotive that uses a 4 cell lithium polymer 5000 mha and will run all day no problem.

Thanks. That seems to be the consensus.

It seems that the cheap batteries are a problem, but the more expensive ones are reliable. So … I guess most LS modelers won’t be getting them!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

What’s the difference in price? Where do I get one of each?

Hobbyking are the best for lipo batteries

Tod, take a look at www.all-battery.com

Thanks steve ill have a look.

I’ve only just started using Li batteries, and I would point out there are lots of threads on LSC and MLS about the pros and cons and dangers.

From what I have seen, the inexpensive batteries do not have built-in protection to prevent over- (and under-) charging, which can overheat or kill them. The more expensive batteries come with a built in PCB that control the charging.

P.S. you need a proper Li battery charger too.

Hi guys i have laser cut these from 2.7mm luwan ply and need to know the best way to to seal and paint it acrilyc or enamel?

I usually seal the wood with a good oil based primer, so as to not warp the wood. Then I paint it with acrylic paint. I prefer acrylic because its easier to mix and thin and clean my brushes.

Much easier to deal with in the air brush also. I do like enamel in an air brush as far as how it paints but the results in my opinion are minimal compared to the ease of clean up. And if you use Polyscale acrylics they are just as nice as any enamel.

Looks a very nice model that would tempt anybody looking for a Gauge 1 doodlebug from down there. The killer for me is the shortage of anything made by Lionel - here in yUK there ain’t nuthin’.

Since you are doing this by CAD and LASER cutting, I’m of the opinion that most of the folks on THIS forum would be looking for it to be available in 1/29th scale, rather than 1/32nd.

Howzaboutthat?

Tac, you coud probably use another motor block of some sort. Quite a few are available there in the UK from some small outfits.
