Large Scale Central

Large Scale Running in the Sunny South

Are there any clubs running trains regularly in Florida that welcome snowbirds over the winter months?

Depends on what part of FL you will be staying in. Later RJD

The Florida Garden Railway Society will be running their display at the Florida Rail Fair train show this weekend (Sat and Sun), just north of Orlando. If that’s what you mean by “Florida”, then come by and meet people, ask questions, and make friends.

You couldn’t tell when or where their next event is from their webpage (it’s 4 years out of date).

Steve,

Depending on what your description of ‘running trains’ means and where in Florida you are going. The Emerald Coast Garden Railway Club has a facility located at the West Florida Railroad Museum in Milton, Florida. We don’t do operations in the sense of the OVGRS as our facility is primarily for the public to see trains run. The Museum is open on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 3:00 and there will always be someone there ‘running trains’. You can get a feeling and location from our web site www.ecgrc.com and the Museum site www.wfrm.org. We welcome visitors and visiting trains.

PM me if you are interested or need additional information.

Yeah, I have heard there is some story behind that. I’m not an officer or inner circle member, just some schlub who answered a very vague question about “Florida”.

Thomas,

I didn’t mean to ride you about their forum. That was not my intention. Club webpages do need to be updated. It shows a lack of interest to the public when it’s out of date.

Sorry I didn’t mean to be vague, but hoped I could get some leads on where such opportunities may be to operate while down south. That might help us decide where we may like to stay. I realize that finding something like OVGRS will be very remote I am becoming much more appreciative of Fred and the gang!

Steve,

I believe the difference is the ‘purpose’ of the group. Our club is an extension of the Museum, so our goal is to ‘please the public’. Most of our visitors would get very bored very quickly watching real switching move.
