Large Scale Central

Large scale needs large video

None of your wussy, small chip, home video cameras for my railroad, which needs a BIG, pro camera to capture its scope and magnificance. So I test drove this Sony, which stickers out at somewhere north of $50 thou. Swee-eet!

Actually, the camera and a Suburban full of more cameras, lights and gear belongs to a friend of mine who does location, celebrity shoots for ABC and CBS. Still, it’s fun to dream big.

I get tired just thinking about carrying that camera

Might be a slight problem getting it over bridges and through tunnels!

And people laugh at my 8-track player.

I’ll stick with my little JVC…

Holly Mac, Joe… that one big cam. Remember the shoulder cam corders that we used for movies for our VCR player. Sure glad the new cams can hold with one hand now. No shoulder pains…
Yup… you sure look like the real ABC/CBS on the Road guy…lol. " Don’t trip over something and kill your self with it." LoL. Step lightly… (http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/noelw/Smilies/Wipe%20forhead.gif)

Funny, tripping came to mind when my friend’s wife who is a producer for FOX News, said, “Now try walking backwards.” Of course, it helps if you are 6 ft 2 in. tall and 40 years old rather than (gasp) 75. BTW, on his to-do list this week is Elton John, followed by the Emmy awards, where he is among several shooters. He makes a few extra bucks renting out some of his gear such as a small “lipstick camera” and various lights, since he’s got a truck full.

About those small cameras we had–or still do. Granted, there are a lot of impressive smallish video cameras (and DSLRs serving as still and video cameras) that make nice pictures. But when it comes to network HD shows in prime time, there’s nothing like them big guns, I guess.
