More recently it was A4 locos from Green Bay and Montreal that visited us over here.
Now we have a Canadian Lancaster bomber here.
A wonderful sight I guess for those who were able to witness their flight.

Since it’s about the wingy stuff; during WW 2 there was at least one Allied bomber that took a dive in Lake Zug. The USAF B17-G was eventually retrieved and traveled as an exhibit to all corners of Switzerland, including to St.Moritz.

The pictures show the transfer from SG to NG and the drawing shows the rolling stock arrangement. Similar to how BNSF transports the Boeing Fuselages, eh?!!
BTW that transport happened during the period I model.
PS The devil made me do it; the thread obviously needed some reference to railways … and voilà …
Wonderful aircraft .
But never , ever call it a Lanc in front of a true believer .

Thanks, Alan for the update. As a young lad in the 1950’s, it was a thrill to hear the roar of the four Merlins on RCAF Maritime Patrol Lancasters as they occasionally flew over from Comox on Vancouver Island. The Lancaster is of interest to me as I am named after an RCAF pilot seconded to the RAF’s 57th Squadron whose plane was shot down in 1943 after returning from a raid. Canada built the Lancaster during the war as well, so they were used in Maritime Patrol and aerial surveys of the Arctic after the war.

I learned to fly at Centennial Airport in Englewood (south Denver). It has parallel runways, VERY (as in, frighteningly) close together–the longer one for big/fast stuff, shorter one for us little guys. Anyways… one day I took off on the short runway while a B-25 took off on the other. We climbed out together, although he climbed alot slower but got out a LOT faster! That was really, really cool.
Also was in line for takeoff behind a B-17 one time; and taxiied past a Hawker Sea Fury, which looks small in pictures but is humongous in person.
Obviously planes are one of my other hobbies–plastic, RC and 1:1 (although 1:1 turned out to be just too dang expensive). Sounds like I’m not alone!
The Lancaster is one of the prettiest planes ever made. Add the Spitfire and the Brits account for a fair chunk of all the world’s airplane coolness.
Strange discussion on a train site, I must say.

You got that right. OTOH it could be a small oversight of not remembering what the “General Discussion” is intended for: "Train related talk that doesn’t fit in another forum."
Und ve vill make you obey !!!. Train talking vill begin . Jetzt .

HJ, I am reliably informed that to become a pilot, it was necessary to be Trained…and I believe that the passenger trains were involved in getting said namesake to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Halifax and eventually to Bournemouth and Lincolnshire back in them days…But then I shouldn’t rail on, should I? lol
I do enjoy your videos…

Yeah Myron, that’s what I heard/read, too. But … one item that was included in the prerequisites to enter training was/is … ability to read and comprehend.
Glad to hear you like my videos.
HJ, Wot, no 10 percent discount for seniors?
Yes, perhaps, it should have been in Other Hobbies but then, also, bureaucractic thinking lacks latitude sometimes…
And so, back to my 16 tonnes of gravel for my garden railway extensions…
Cheers,
Myron

Happy shoveling, did you get a senior’s discount on that gravel?
Getting 10% off anything related to building a model railway in the garden means just a bit extra, quite apart from HD granting the discount.
As far as latitude goes, over the years one gets to know one’s Pappenheimers.
Meanwhile , back on the runway , the hijacked Lancaster sat making that sweet sound that four Rolls Royce Merlins produce , a symphony of beauty not appreciated by people who have no soul .

There doesn’t seem to be a ‘special place’ for non railway topics. Neither does my post fir into the ‘other hobby’ slot.
My initial post did start in a train related manner - A4’s are, in fact, famous steam locomotives!
I wouldn’t worry about that , Alan , some people are just born spoilers who like to see their name in print and love hogging the limelight .
Remember also , the City of Lancaster has a large railway presence , so the nitpicker has no real grounds to object .
My Son is looking forward to seeing the Lancaster today . The weather is just right . I hope it flies back over Northolt , they do that frequently during the display season .
Two of them formating over my place under Northolt approach would mike my day .

There is no special place for non railway topics for a simple reason: there are plenty of fora on the Internet that cover all topics that are non railway/railroad related.
Ah , yes Hans , but not with your talent .

So what about the Other Hobbies page.
Treat these aircraft remarks as aircraft spotting!!
Now kiss and make up girls.

HJ, if you are such a purist, then why did you pollute this sacred forum with a post about a B-17 that decided to play submarine? Your britches are dirty, too…
At least my reference to aviation was about the Skytrain, which ties it into trains…

What do you think all those little x’s were on my post ?
It was no use anyway , Der Fuhrer has made his mind up . Unusual in a Fuhrer , true , because they usually like sycophants .
Now fasten your seatbelts , my Lancaster is taking off . VRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOMM .
Wow , ya just gotta try it .
