Large Scale Central

KVRWY Switching Layout at SELSTS

Okay, I’m caught up on stuff and have a chance to load some pictures. The SELSTS was the debut of the “Inglenook” switching puzzle addition to the already established “Timesaver” switching puzzle. These are part of the inside portions of the Kaskaskia Valley Railway that were built as a portable display that could be hauled to train shows. No, its not big, but it is big enough for Jan and I to lug around and gives us and our friends (all of you) a place for us to hang out at train shows. This started many years ago, right here on the internet when a group of us wanted a gathering place at train shows like the ECLSTS. Through many months of debate, we established the ISLSMR. That is the International Society of Large Scale Model Railroaders. No dues, no rules, no minutes, no organization - just promote the hobby. Oh yeah, there is a secret handshake, but it is easy to learn. Membership is open. Anyway, back to the switching puzzle. We’ve shown the “Timesaver” for years at shows.

This year we added the “Inglenook”.

It gives us a larger selection of freight cars to distribute on the “Timesaver”.

As we carry out the duties of transfering the empties and loads, we get to strike up conversations with young and old about the hobby. Anyone can have chance at the throttle. Some just need more guidance than others.

As I was busy with one young engineer, Jan says that at one time there were 8 more lined up to get a chance at the throttle. I’m aware that some of these pictures aren’t the best, but I hope you get the idea. When I downloaded the camera, I was surprized that I only had these pictures and some I took of the “Sundance Central”. What a beautiful modular railroad that is. I’ll post those under a seperate title.
