KVRwy OPs Weekend 2010

Even I questioned as to why there isn’t a thread about this coming weekend. I thought sure I posted it. Anyway, its coming on fast and many friends are coming in from out of town. Of course, “Out of Town” is relative in a town of 2 miles square and 3400 people.

Yes, we should have our Consolidated Yardmaster and Dispatcher back. It worked without them, but it wasn’t as much fun. We have an international flavor with Doug Matheson coming from Canada and then many people from other parts of Illinois and other states showing up.

Some are coming Friday to help with set up and the fun begins about Noon both Saturday and Sunday. Weather sounds iffy, but that only moves more of it inside. The new pup has caused terror amongst the buildings and plants but will probably hide in her cage during the times that all the people are here.

Pictures to follow.

NEW puppy?!?!?!? My Yorky Maximus NEEDS a girlfriend! lol

Your Yorky sounds like he might be something else to herd along with the other “house slipper” with eyes that shares this address. All of us are working hard to get along and the pup, “Kassy”, just thinks its a great time.

I’ll try to be there Sunday, but what with finals at Wash U coming up over the next week, I’m still not decided.

Im there. Everything has been checked out and is working. Have my paint brush ready to ballest and hand level as well. cant wait.

Friday - 30 April - 0630

Wind is howling at a steady 25 mph with gusts well above 35. If it stays like this the whole OPs Session will be a blow out. Get it? Joke? Never mind. Forecast says the winds should lay this evening, but it is certainly going to impact preparations. Friends are coming over today, so all the food Jan has prepared will just have to be eaten. Sometimes you do what you have to do.

Further reports and pictures to follow.e

I heard from the Nashville contingent that Doug had arrived from Canada.

Here’s hoping there is a good time for all. Wish (as always) I could make it.

The Colorado Consolidated runs every 1st and third Fridays, sun, monsoon or snow. Pikers! Whining about a little wind. That’s just a Fresh Breeze.

Whining is not allowed unless cheese is served.

Friday - April 30 - 2040

The crews have retired after a good day of preparation, food and friendship. Geoff George, Andy Clarke, Doug Matheson along with Mark and Nedra Godwin joined us for the day. Weather is moving in, but so far it certainly looks manageable, so far. Things start around Noon tomorrow.

Early morning May 1st, 2010. Shadows are about all you can see as the day breaks after a rough night of storms on the KVRwy. Forecast is cloudy, but not much rain as crews begin to gather. Track will have to be inspected and turnouts will have to be swept to make sure all is ready for today’s operations. It all gets underway about Noon.

Ric, is the show still on for tomorrow(Sunday) despite the rain? I’m going to try to be there a little after noon, probably with a 4-6-0.

Rain or shine…FRIENDS or Fiends, will find a great party at Ric and Jan’s place…the real sunshine is in the hearts and minds of all those attending…with a little help from a Rum/ski or three…!!! Have a great party you guys…

The first day of the KVRwy Spring OPs Weekend was threatened by rain, but ended with just a few little spits and even some sunshine. It was nice to see the Consolidated Yardmaster, Andy Clarke, back at his position. He was busy directing traffic as Doug Matheson came through working his manifest.

In total we ran 16 trains, switched 82 cars and carried 9,964 tons of freight and passengers.

As the day wore on, conversations expanded and the day’s work wound down.

Dinner created a gathering of all of the crews

This lasted well after dark

But some of the younger members of the crew were still running trains

It all cranks up again in about 3 hours, so time to start getting things geared up.

Glad to see the weather held up for you guys. Looks like a fun weekend!..
