I’m going to bring Geoff’s 4-6-0 too–I don’t expect the K to fit everywhere.
So don’t worry Ric, I expect massive clearance issues

Robbie,
Trust me, I’m not worred. Equipment needs to fit the railroad, not the other way around. I once had a guy get upset that his train couldn’t get through a switchback with the number of cars he had on his train. He thought I should make the switchback longer, so he didn’t have to uncouple or break is train into two runs. That didn’t happen.

Should I bring up “modifying” an opening at KV Shops to accomodate the 117? Or the suggesttion to remove a tree at Redbud to pass her air compressor? hehehehehe. I actually have a Shay now that will fit Ric’s Plate C clearances…and I don;t get to go! Mebbe in the Spring!

Just over 24 hours… “where’s my battery charger???”
The K officially runs on battery with the TE and appears to have enough life for 30-45 minutes of runtime minimum with a 8-10 car train of AMS freight cars. Going to pick up another battery or two tonight in case(will four be enough?), but with hauling smaller cars it should do fine.
I actually am using alligator clips from the drill battery to the TE receiver(in a gondola), and running a wire from the receiver through the top of the tender. Amazingly it works when covered with electrical tape to eliminate an interesting potential short.
Will be there at 11, Ric–what TE frequencies do you run so I can reprogram mine tonight?
Sunday morning 6 am CDST. Saturdays OPs is now history as we prep for the second day. We had a good turn out of friends that have come to help us run the KVRwy. Our Dispatcher Jane and Consolidated Yardmaster Andy were greatly missed, but we all struggled through without them. Every business knows there is adjustment when key positions have to be filled by substitutes. Dave Masters did the duties at Consolidated admirally, Rodney Edington did a great job as the Southern Yardmaster, taking my place and catching on quickly as to how the basement operated. I did the Dispatcher functions and I must grade myself poorly, as I tried to fill Jane’s shoes. However, we did succeed to run 23 trains, move 107 cars and carry 2990 tons of goods and passengers. Pictures will follow, but they may have to wait until after today’s session, purely because of time restraints.
Wish we could have been there. With the kids and Rachel recently having colds and I am finishing up cleaning from the flood of last week, the Siddles will be at home in Ste Gen this year. Tell every one we said hi. Congratulations on another terrific op session Ric.
Todd
Once again, we had a blast! The Clarke’s were definately missed, it’s just not the same without them. My 4 year old run 3 trains with my supervision and did just great. I enjoyed meeting and talking with the engineers from out of town and other club members. All in all, I just can’t wait for the Spring session to get here!
sorry no pics to post.

Speaking of which:

In my opinion…he did better than Dad… Another out-of-towner, who needs no introduction…

Beautiful weekend! Someone in Carlyle is living right. In the seventies on both days and plenty of sun. Got these shots at Ric’s Marina on Sat morning:

I see Ken got some pictures posted before I did, but here goes. By Noon Saturday, we had trains headed both directions with their assingments.

And a Lumber Turn was making its run. Here the Climax is being turned on the Red Bud Loop.

Dave Masters did an admirable job trying to fill AndyC’s shoes. In this picture, he is working the Consolidated Yards as Clay starts down toward Cat Dump.
We had lots of family crews running this weekend. Besides Clay, John Bible also brought his younger son, Noah, that has come every year and is developing to be a good engineer.
Jim Murphy brought his grandson, Kyle.
Bruce and Jean Chandler worked their way out of the basement at the Owl’s Bend Lead.
A lot of new equipment was making a debut this last weekend. Of course, all the talk was about Bruce’s Mikado.
It was admired by all.
And it brought lots of discussions, even challenging the statement that “the art of modeling is dead”.
We also had new examples of conversions. This Aristo Craft rail car.
And a USA 44 tonner with all the bells and whistles.

It was a great weekend. Thank you to everyone that participated and to those of you that show interest by reading about our event. Next scheduled OPs Session is Spring 2010 on the first weekend of May.
Another great year of operations and socialization. We sure missed Andy and Jane. It was good to meet some new faces and even discover an old sign:

The thing about this meet is that everyone is just smiling all the time.
We got to revisit some old bottle necks as well, proving we really did need a dispatcher.

David took over as Consolidated Yard Master but it’s very hard to replace Andy.

Jean and I did go birding both mornings. We really thought that this was an old roadbed, but Ric claims it’s just the top of a saddle dam for the lake. Either way, we got some good views.
Yeap Bruce, that is Saddle Dam Number 3. Lake on left (it just isn’t that high, yet) and protected land and US Highway 50 on the right (about a mile away).
Pelicans were circling overhead this AM looking for you guys.

Thanks for the pix. Looks like a great time was had by all. Someday we’ll get there.
Thanks, Ric and Jan for a wonderful weekend. We had great weather and ran a lot of trains.
I really enjoyed being the Southern Yardmaster. I’m planing on coming back in the spring.
I enjoyed meeting some new folks and talking trains.
Rodney
Rod, you need to post those pictures of your layout so we can see your progress…
