Large Scale Central

KVRWY November OPS WEEKEND

I’m always corn-fused.

You approach KV cabins via a switch back. The lead wasn’t long enough for the crane and the log cars…so had to leave the crane at a siding, then up the switchback with the cars. Then, back for the crane. Neat problem.

Apparently, Ric got a great deal on switchbacks when he built his layout as they seem to be in lots of places. All with short leads.

Now I’m trying to think if I’ve got a place for a switchback on my own layout.

I was extremely bitten by the “Switchback bug” when trying to increase elevation. A trip to Cass was the final straw that impacted me greatly. There are 4 switchbacks on the KVRwy. Two outside and two inside, shortest leg is at KV Cabins or maybe Cat Dump Branch, anyway they cause operational situations or opportunities depending on how you look at them.

You really have to look at this as the 180 degree opposite of the running in circles and never uncoupling a train. Here you not only can’t run in circles, but you have to uncouple and double the hill many times. It’s a railroad, not a slot car track.

So what's the track at KV Cabins look like that had Bruce corn-fused?
Here's a picture story of Redbud and KV Cabins..........

Oh, man. That should have been required reading before I went there. Of course I did read it…but a long time ago…and per my usual tradition, I promptly forgot it all.

I like this picture of KV Cabins:

Ric I dissagree with you on this. Having seen your lay out, I’m sure there were was alot of “running in circles”. Might not have been the trains doing it tho.

…grinning…

I often do that in the basement when I can’t find the switch to Owl’s bend. (It’s over by the stairs.)
