Kudos to Big Barry

I want to give thanks to Barry at Big Barry’s Trains!! The video of my ET&WNC engine and 3 other ones running elsewhere on here, ran about two laps on my layout. I had purchased this engine off of Evil Bay 3 yrs. ago. When received I ran around my ceiling layout maybe 4-5 times. I took it down due to my situation with my legs and not getting up on a ladder to put stuff up there till I can lower it. It sat in the box for 3 years, because until about 2 weeks ago I hadn’t converted it to battery RC due to me not having the knowledge to do so. Like alot of things I have put off, I finally just dove into it, tried to do what I thought should back done, and hoped I didn’t blow or burn something up. Much to my amazement it went off like a dream, only problem was due to dirty wheels on the engine I use to program in different sounds. Anyway, I ran it for the video prolly about 4 turns it quit, I thought I needed to just charge the batteries, which I did it ran about 3/4 of a lap again, and quit!! After taking apart 3 times returning it to the outdoor layout it quit again. This time I could hear a low whirring sound, which I figured something was not meshing or had come loose. On the 4th time apart (picture below) I found the problem! A split gear shaft on the quarter size gear. Sooooooooooo here is where Barry comes in I called him, and he gave me superb instructions over the phone on how to get everything out, very simply. I purchased not his “bullet proof” drive, which when funds become available I will replace with, but an original drive from him, which arrived at my door 3 days later!! Because this was my first encounter going into this engine this far I called him once more, and again he guided me through what I needed to do. Put back together, and it runs superbly just like new. The engine appeared new, when I received it 3 years ago, and Barry said this Anniversary model had very little problem with what I found, but he said it prolly was sent that way. Anyways again I would like to thank Barry for my 2nd excellent experience with him, and I would recommend him for any of your Bachmann needs, and feel confident that he will help you in anyway he can!! Regal Here is the pic of the split gear, with one pin removal after you have the bottom off 4 screws, and taking two wires off you can remove the whole motor, and gear assembly that is in one piece in a steel frame locked into the frame with the pin.

You can see the whole motor and bracket (with the gear) on the left and above it there is a pin which allows the whole assembly to come out then you just snip two wires replace, and solder, and then re-install new assembly. Easy PeaseyK

Great work… See… I told you to call him… He will do you right on anything… Looking good… Now where is the video of it running now?..hahahha…

Earlier video of it before it went down. Maybe get another once I get out to the outdoor layout maybe today. Been rainin here for a couple of days, waiting for lawn to dry out today Friday so I can mow. Business before pleasure you know. LOL Regal

Jerry,

Nice to know you are still making progress.

Thanks for the compliment, but not necessary.

Keep me posted.
