Large Scale Central

KOPS 2021

Looks like a fun time was had by all. Isnt rebuilding switches in the middle of an ops weekend a thing? I know I usually have at least one that gets swapped out…

I do believe that swapping out switches or performing maintenance on them is a requirement when having an OPS session…

Had friends run my railroad in preparation for OPS, and now I have 3 switches on the table in the basement to have the

switch throws replaced… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

As far as switches were concerned Rick, I had to rebuild one, and replace a frog in another, all while dodging cars and engines. Who could ask for a better time?..(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Hey Ken if that remark was directed my way, just wanted you to know that I have had to rebuild 3 so far this spring(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif), getting ready for our open house/run day in a couple of weeks.

Looks like you all had a great time.

Whew, now I don’t feel so bad. I still have one more to fix, but it needs to be pulled up and brought in to the work bench. It’s a 3-way so that’ll be fun.

I’m just delighted that you guys were able to get together at Ken’s this weekend. He P.M.'d me with the news, thanks Ken. Hopefully the State on both sides will soon open up the border and we can get back to normal soon. Cheers to all US and Canadian friends & invaders!

Good to see that somebody in that group has “graduated” to RailPro. Personally, I love it!

By the way, who’s the old guy in those pictures? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Haven’t had a chance to load pictures even though I didn’t really take that many. Besides every time I did, someone was telling me I was #1.

" Thank you " to Ken and Bev for hosting and I enjoyed chatting with the crew even if dad was there and still owes me $20.

Ahh, that explains your “I’m number 1” signal to Bruce (behind the camera).

I had a total blast, thanks again Ken & Bev!

Never been to an operating session before, and learned tons from Bruce and the other guys. Very inspiring! Now I want to see if I can hack my layout for at least some operations…

Saturday I ran my “extra” train (Bruce’s shay and LSCX boxcar), had fun getting into people’s way a couple times, and chatted and watched.

Sunday, I teamed up with Bruce, me engineer & Bruce conductor, and ran the #4 train which didn’t make it out Saturday. Then we did the #1 train, and that was quite the puzzler.

Here’s Ric and Hollywood hard at it. Buy, Ken sure has a beautiful setting.

Ric again, with the Evil Twins birthed by Rooster, who programmed the whistle to sound off a loud rooster crow, hilarious!

Ken in the distance, Rooster, Bruce and Jon.

I had fun talking with Andy, and seeing photos of his layout – they blew my mind.

Pretty crappy pics, and I meant to take a lot more (and better). But I was having too much fun, and completely forgot!

I took a test video, meaning to do something decent, but I forgot to do that as well. So FWIW, here’s that short clip.

I really appreciated the lay-back and friendly atmosphere. Perfect for newbies. Thanks again Ken, Bruce, and everyone!

Bev and Ken, THANK YOU! We made it to west of Dayton, Ohio on our way home. Easy driving. We had a great time and it felt like the attitude at “York in the Alcove”. I guess the most amazing part of this conversation and postings to me, was the extremely casual mention of the announcement of LGB’s newest Amtrak passenger car, the full Baggage Car. For those sharing that interest of LGB Equipment, this is a must have. I doubt if you’ll be able to find them online or in the hobby shops. Looks Fantastic! Glad to see new announcements are making it to the production level. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Cliff, the Crowing Rooster sound is completely credited to the programming of Jim Agnew. You should have caught on to my ability to program these transmitters, as Jon tried to improve my skills. I still spell Taters with a “P”.

Who dispatched the helper service?

I thought Ken’s was flat with no grades ?

Thanks for the correction, Ric! Sorry for assuming. And you know what they say about that.

Dang, that reminds me, I didn’t get a photo of Rooster’s donkey, I even signed it…

Yep, not my work

Love ya’ Dad , Mom , Uncle Ric and Aunt Jan and the rest !

Glad you got to see you’re grandson all grown up but still dumb as a rock !

You could have given him the $20 you owe me!

Bruce Chandler said: I took on the yardmaster duties and had a great time. I will definitely do THAT again.

“The Evil Twins” did well with 6 cars in the yard. As we got up to Mancos, the grade was against us and we had 3 extra cars to push out of the way. Caused some overloading problems with “Rooster”, “David” was doing just fine. I think it was a personality thing. We had to bring in one of Ken’s Road Engines to complete the run. The “Twins” were put in “time out” to adjust their attitude for acting up and, after they cooled down for awhile, Jon worked with me later on to maybe improve performance. Had to do with throttle and load. He worked on them and I ate pizza. Things improved Sunday as we drug out “Ozark Larry” and I’ll do some more testing and “adjustments” at home. They are little “Box Cabs” and the 2 of them equal a small switcher, maybe an NW2. KVRwy has worked out a lease of some larger equipment to handle these road jobs. Watch for announcements from the Public Relations Department in the near future.
