Kites

Hey Y’all; Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, hosted in conjunction with Kansas City Kite Club “Flights of Fancy” on April 17. Rousing success! Attendance above 13,000 Yes, traffic became an issue - but that’s okay in a way. One food vendor brought over twice as much as last year and sold out twice as fast - had to truck in a reload! Way better weather than last year. Wife and I drove 100 miles to get there and tossed in visiting parents and in-laws as an added bonus at no extra charge Wind carried my old reliable 6ft delta to end of 500ft string - never had one that far up before It quite happily flew itself tied to a tent stake for almost 2 hours straight which allowed time to tinker with other kites. I like days like that. Last year got a couple of the stunt kites flown with 2 lines. I really suck at it but am learning  Have thought about making kites but my health ain’t the greatest and I decided to put what ability is available into making trains.

Holy cow! That looks like fun. Thanks for sharing. My son has kite stories from youthful days on the beach.

Cubby, where’s the kite?

A vacation to the Oregon Coast a few years ago during Kite Week got me interested again.
I bought a 5’ Delta wing stunt kite, and after a few crashes, got the hang of it.

As a lad, back in the 50’s, my cub scout group made kites, and we made a regular old skool kite, but it was 6 feet tall. It almost lifted two of us off the ground!
