Kitbashing a barn

Mr Russell has been in need of small barn to complete his homestead. I have been planning on building a small barn like structure for Mr. Russell. The other day I was at tractor supply looking at the clearance section when I came across this neat little barn. It was about the size I was looking to build. I figure with a little cosmetic work and lots of thompson waterseal I might be able to make this into a decent little barn. My plan is to get the window frams off and then use cedar for siding. Then add new window siding and some details. The wood is poplar, not the best but i have used this stuff in the past with good results as long as the bottom is ontop of stone and watersealed every year. So this is what the barn looks like. Im hoping to start work on it in the next few days (waiting on my new pin nailer) I hope Mr. Russell will like it. Should be enough room to store his moon Shine still in the winter. Speaking Of Mr Russell I have not heard from him in a few days.

I like it you have the start of something good there. In my town there is a red barn with a green metal roof alot like the one you have there that I have admired and thought to replicate. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Thanks Todd. Do you by chance have a photo of that barn? Would love to see it and maybe get some ideas.

I am always surprised by what interesting variety of birdhouses that come on the market that are compatible with LS

...and birdbrains, too. :P

I also got my barn completed. Siding was added, an old rusted metal roof that I got from a local barn, that had collapsed. I made new front doors and added a pulley to the top. Ill add a few more details to it as I find stuff. The question is, do I let it weather on its own or paint it barn red and sand it so it looks like its fading or stain it a dark color??? Its not suppose to be a full sized barn more of a small homestead type farm building.

Homesteaders problably could not afford paint…so let it weather naturaly or speed up the process with some india ink/alcohol mixture or whatever. My 2 cents.

That is really cool. Sorry I didn’t see your request for a photo but I don’t have one. Next time I’m over that area with my camera I should get a photo of it. Nice job.
