Travel a-field a bit and you’ll find that all LS Discussion Forum sites are certainly not created equal.
The ones who supposedly have all the “Bells and Whistles” seem to have a great set of trouble when it comes to user friendliness.
OK here’s the skinny on how long it takes to load the start page (always the one with the current topics)
Site A 7sec (LSC; NorthAmerica)
Site B 7sec (NorthAmerica)
Site C 46sec (NorthAmerica) not a typo; it is fortysix seconds
Site D 8sec (NorthAmerica)
Site E 7sec (NorthAmerica)
Site F 4sec (NorthAmerica)
Site G 6sec (Europe)
Site H 7sec (Europe)
Site I 10sec (Europe)
Site K 3sec (Europe)
All above tested with completely emptied CACHE, the same browser (Opera6.05 which provides all the accurate data), a cable connection and a 'puter that is trimmed for lean running.
Now the next time you’re on a site that takes a while to load: don’t blame your machine, curse your modem, the “stupid” browser you’re using or for that matter your ISP. Have a look at some of the other LS sites and decide for yourself where the snags are.
Oh yeah, BTW I could run the “tracet” routine and the results would be the same.
“When it’s slow, have a close look at the site”
How do I know? While I’m not super-tech wonk, I designed a few sites and manage to get them to run lean and mean. I gladly leave the “Bells and Whistles” to those who like to whistle “Dixie”.
Thanks Bob for running a KISS site that loads quickly in any of the browsers I have tried!
