Kids: Astronomy-Telescopes

Title of thread sums it up.

Looking to do some star-gazing with the fam since the move to the Country-it’s really dark down here and would like some ideas about Kid-Friendly telescopes that would appeal to the adults as well. Any suggestions?

thanks,

cale

Cale,
depends on what you want to spend. There are several out there that are smart board controlled. With the kids it might be better that way as the scope moves on it’s own. Now if your looking at the moon any cheap one would be fine. I have been out of that for many many years so all I can remember right now is http://www.celestron.com/c3/home.php and http://www.telescope.com/control/main/

Just like cameras, it’s all in the lens.
I have a Tasco. It aint worth a flip.
Ralph

Saw in a Sunday flyer Toys R Us had a smart board controlled scope for like $125 Cale

thanks guys!

I made a Dobsonian type with my son, get a lot of scope for that. Ours was a 10" Can take awhile to get the mirror though, unless you grind your own.

Telescopes are like anything.
You get what you pay for.
There’s almost no comparison to viewing thru a lesser expensive refractor, than a nice reflector. (I think I got that right.  )
Once in a while the local astronomy club hosts an open house were they demo the difference.
One of those reflectors----what a difference! If I were an amateur Astronomer, I’d get one of those.
But…Costly. :frowning: :frowning:
