If anyone has this K-line engine and it doesn’t have any pulling power, sounds lumpy running, or has locked up totally, look at the axle gears. It suffers from that split axle gear syptom and NWSL offers replacements #2464-6 for one axle gear. I wasn’t sure it would be worth it as the motors seem weak and the engine is very light. After working on some problems with a burnt electrical chase and bad axle gears, it seems like it’s going to be a cool little engine. It’s got ribbed axles for grip and flywheels on each motor!
The NWSL package says it fits K-line G scale GP922 ??? so maybe it fits the GP9s also.
I have that in US Army colors Joe. Let me know if that gear fix works. I used metal bands on mine, but the gears were sorta messed up and it wobbles. Give the part # also.
The whole motor block looks remarkably like USA trains.
Jerry, The part number is listed above for one gear. It runs smoothly right now.
Grant, The block inside looks identical in design to my USA gp38 that is apart on the bench next to this one. The size of the gears is way different. Much smaller on the axles of the K-line. The K-line has a flywheel on each motor, but the motor is much weaker.
Same power pickup shoe design, same wire pickup rubbing the axle design, same bearing design, even the same split axle hence, the split gear issue.
Thank you Joe.
Jerry, are you looking for the axle gear? That’s the part number above on their site. Do a search for that # under their store link
