K-27 battery/sound?

I’m looking into putting battery/R-C/sound in my Bachmann K-27. Easiest/cheapest way to do this? (read: least possible amount of wiring changes–I’m not exactly an electronics genius.)

I don’t really have a preference in terms of control system, though I do have several Aristo TEs(all 27mhz, three 2-channel/two 10-channel).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello Robbie.

I have done quite a few K-27’s now.
Most were using my RCS system
However apart from the TX and receiver the installations are vritually the same using low cost 2 channel AM R/C equipment.

You can read up on how to do the various methods at the How To’s at the RCS website.

Versions 3 & 4 are the best way I have found.
The hardest part is removing the steel weights from the tender to fit the batteries in.
The only wire splicing is for the chuff contact to the Phoenix P5 or Sierra sound.
The rest of the battery wiring is via screw terminals

Please feel free to contact me if you want further information.

Thanks! Your solderless install looks quite interesting, but Phoenix+$300 of R/C gear really doesn’t seem like a good idea to me at this point(going to college(university to you Aussies) in a month and a half). Have any idea whether a QSI sound board works with RCS or another R/C system?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Robbie.

I understand your predicament.
As I understand it the QSI will only work with the addition of a G Wire receiver and either an Airwire or an NCE transmitter.

Plus of course, the batteries, charger and installation items which will be an expense no matter which battery R/C system you choose.

BTW. An EVO PnP-3BK plus a Futaba 2 stick radio will set you back less than US$200.
