I was digging through some early pics of my RR and found these that I thought you might enjoy.

Not thread jacking only sharing something that you might enjoy II cousin Matt

Edit for page 11

Matt, Nice progressā€¦

And, yes, the son is hijackingā€¦

Very cool cuz! I like that sd40-2! I need one of those to go with my csx ds40-2. Looks like you have quite a large layout. NICE!!!

Thanks Andy! I plan to keep working until itā€™s too cold and I have to go into hibernation. lol.

Rooster wants to know if itā€™s done yet?

Sean, I wish! Iā€™m ready to expandā€¦did I just say that! lol.

Well, no progress update. Itā€™s just too dang cold to do anything. Last weekend I did break out the sd40-2 and finally ran it. Iā€™m not sure if I will get any more work done to the layout until it warms back up. I just donā€™t get out in the cold weather. Anyway, I took a short video of the sd40-2.

click the gear icon and select 1080. Itā€™s quite a bit clearer.

Looks great Matt. Amazing the transformation when looking at the first pictures.

Thanks Shawn!

I had Friday off from work andā€¦yep ran a train. I really need to get back to construction of the layout. lol. Anyway, hereā€™s a video of my Friday afternoon.

The construction can waitā€¦runnin trains is more funā€¦

'tis true ken! I have the next five days off too. Wonder how much train runningā€¦errrr work Iā€™ll get done. lol

Train running is more like it.

Yep David it is! Too cold/muddy to work on the layout.

I picked up some new aml csx bethgonā€™s at the train show in Collinsville. I had to run them this past sunday even if I did just about freeze

I know Andy REALLY, REALLY wanted to see the Chessie pulling the bethgonā€™sā€¦so just for him I made a short video. lol.

Matt?? Donā€™t know how to tell you, but itā€™s running backwards, dudeā€¦

lol. Yeah, apparently the rear coupler on the chessie is weak. I added the 4 coal cars and it would pull for a bit, then pull apart leaving the train. Front coupler worked fine. Iā€™m going to have to fix that for sure. lol.

So, whats wrong with long hood front? Ats da way locomotives should be run.

Yeah, long hood first is safer.

Long hood forward taken to be safer in collisions.
However ā€¦
If you ever inhale ā€¦
"Bakerā€™s exposures were all before 1991, and he had stated before his death that black smoke routinely flooded the engine cab. Baker explained that the engine cabs were usually 20 or 30 degrees warmer than the outside temperature and he had no choice but to open the engine windows, because locomotives at Norfolk Southern at that time were typically oriented for the engineer to operate the engine in the long hood forward position, placing it in front of the engine cab, and the exhaust openings were mounted on the body of the engine, at the top, and this allowed exhaust to trail into the engine cab. "

Long hood forward is safer for the train crew, yes, but limits their visibilty to see a panarama view as the whats in front of themā€¦ The whole reason/purpose for the short hood was for a visual sight line for the engineerā€¦

Andy, yes, but, at just 45 MPH, how big would the something the engineer sees have to be for him to see it in time to stop? In other words, yes he has a better view, but I would rather be safer, since the likelihood of me seeing and avoiding a collision is not as assured as seeing, messing my shorts, and plowing into what I saw.

David, you just want to keep the mystery goingā€¦ hehehe

The short line around here, has a policy that, when running multiple units, you always run with a short hood forwardā€¦ Most shortlines, however have smaller/shorterr trains, which usually can be stopped in a shorter distanceā€¦

Having the visibility could also allow for the crew to be able to ā€œā€œbraceā€ā€ for the contact, or, as in past years, jump from the train before impactā€¦

There are many arguements, either wayā€¦

However, my comment was only meant to tease Matt, not start an arguementā€¦
