Large Scale Central

Just in case

… someone is interested. Unlike in years past, this year the mfgs can hardly wait to get their “New for 2011” brochures to the market before the Nürnberg Toy Fair. OK here are (in alphabetical order :P):

Märklin LGB®: http://medienpdb.maerklin.de/produkte/pdfs/LGB_NH-Prospekt_2011.pdf
PIKO: http://www.piko.de/e/Neuerscheinung11.php?navid=94 scroll down to “G”
Trainline: http://hetsolderbaantje.nl/TrainLine2011.PDF

The interesting part is the old questions “when? at what price? and what quality?” Nope, I’m not holding my breath!

Hans-
Is “Trainland” a second outlet for LGB products. The visuals are dead-ringers for LGB’s product line - of past and now.
Wendell

What is the Piko “Rio Grande Mogul” gonna be when it grows up? It’s about as squashed and puppyish as the LGB 2-4-0 was.
More importantly, will it run worth a hoot?

Wendell,

No, TrainLine is a completely different company. Started out with Train Control R/C system, then expanded to Train Line 45 track system (Code332) and next came the rolling stock. I don’t know if Train.Li USA imports the complete line, but he brings in quite a bit.

Mik,

In the best German tradition, PIKO is (at least in the LS segment) a TOY mfg. They are as hard, if not harder, than LGB to pin down to any given scale. Question for you: have you read, seen or heard about a PIKO G engine that did run as expected? I haven’t!
