Jon looks like we might get a perfect amount of snow for plowing. 1-3 inches 2-4 at best. Get that plow ready. Busy day tomorrow or sunday. Dont forget the french toast stuff Lol
I’ve been ready for a while! Last night I even considered cutting up my EBT Aristo Classics gondola to build a second plow for the rear of the train. Decided I’d rather look for a different road name to cut if I can get one under $40.
I really need to build a snow-shed just outside the window so I can park the train outside to cool.
Bummer The snow fizzled. We got barely a dusting on the grassy surfaces. The RR is bare under the trees and not even covering the ties where it’s in the open. No Plow Extra today. Guys were called in so they will work in the shop with a fire blazing in the stove.
we ended up with 1/2 inch. NOt plowable.
But the good news is I found out that I have 3 Classics gondolas, so one went under the saw today and as soon as the paint dries I have my rear plow!! I took pics of the surgery and will post later tonight when it’s done.
This morning would have been a good morning to do some “night plowing” with the new set-up if I had felt like getting up at 4 AM. I was awake (the dog wakes us about 3:50AM daily for breakfast), but the thought of getting up and going out in the cold wasn’t high on my priority list.
On Friday’s I work early, so I was up by 5 in time to see that we received a surprise 4 inches of very heavy wet snow. It changed to rain while I was driving to work and the forecast is for above freezing with rain and wind for the next 48 hours, so by tomorrow morning it will probably all be gone.
How’s the weather in the Kittaniny Mountains ?
Jon
I got 2 inches and 3 inches on the ridge tops. No plowing though I had to leave for work early this morning. Still about an inch on the ground Maybe when I get home I could get the plow out.
Shawn;
You got snow?
Holly cow!
All we got here was a little rain though not much.
Lots of wind to go with.
We got the snow… mostly sideways. So Kim and I decided to try the plow… it started out OK

Then we hit the first “drift”… all 3" of it, and of course, the heavy wet snow stuck to the plow. (need to see if I have any wax or Armor-All, I guess… and add more weight to the loco, too)

We got about half way around before enough snow built up under the loco and tender that it completely refused to continue… I’m thinking a secondary smaller plow hidden under the main blade may help - even if it isn’t protototypical.

Nice Mik. Layout looks great in the snow. I think this is the first time Im seeing your layout in the snow.
Mik,
Add another loco. As the “Tool Man” says "MORE POWER "
Armour-All or maybe Rain-X to slick up the plow blade.
Ralph
Mik;
If it’s any consolation, the snow plowing story I read in the original Railroad Magazine many decades ago referred to using three locomotives to buck drifts. A 4-4-0 was coupled to the plow with two 2-6-0s coupled behind it. The logic was that the two 2-6-0s could rerail the 4-4-0 AND the plow when they went on the ground.
Best wishes,
David Meashey
We ended up with 2 inches of snow today with some freezing rain ontop. Would have been perfect for plowing if we didnt get the freezing rain Grrrrr
Real wet snow this afternoon and raining now. Not nice to be out in.
Here is my layout after the snow and freezing rain Ugh Luckly its nothing like last year. this will be gone in a day.
Well, Got about 1" - 1 1/2" yesterday but the temp is 40 degrees out now so it is gone.
We are getting awful close to this being a closed thread, at least in this part of the Country. Temps are floating into the 60’s and all the nights are above freezing. This doesn’t mean we might not have a 10 inch snow in April, but they leave as soon as they come.
