It's WAR

A ground squirrel has undermined my tracks for the THIRD time!

After he did it the first time I filled the hole with rocks. By the next morning he pushed them out. I did it again and put a big rock on top. He dug around it. I added poison and that worked for a week. Now he’s done it again. I feel like I’m pouring ballast into a bottomless pit!

Any thoughts? I can’t see well enough to shoot him!

Short of extreme violence and mayhem perhaps a bridge over the troubled area? Remember Donald Duck didn’t have much luck fighting the little critters either!

Fully operational 1/20.3 model?

My sister-in-;aw is a retired Marine who is a crack shot. It may be time to invite her and her gun to visit!
I think that squirrel took my picture too! It’s gone and I haven’t blown myself up yet!

Last time I had squirrel trouble on the layout, I used rat traps baited with peanuts. However, birds will get into the traps if they’re left out in the open, so I had to hide each trap under a inverted cardboard box, with a opening cut into one end of it.

Poison is pretty efficient, but again it can’t be left out where birds can get it. I personally try to avoid using poisons for rats or squirrels for two reasons: One, the critter does die where the poison is, but instead crawls off somewhere else to die. Often this is somewhere inaccessible yet close enough for the smell to be a problem. And two, other wildlife may be affected if they eat the poisoned critter.

If you know where the squirrel’s burrow is, you can use those pest-control smoke bombs. Those are safe and very effective.

Doug, get a big mean cat and leave it out at night, the squirrel will be gone one way or the other. My cat does a good job, he even bring then in the house to show them off both dead and alive! You may have a gooher and they can be a pain, uncover his hole and use a .410 shot gun, does not carry far and not as hard to aim. Paul

Doug If you lived a little closer, I would loan you my Yorkie. She loves squirrels very much. In fact she loves them to death ! She sent three of them to their reward to quick order. After that they stayed off the ground in our backyard. Of course that was in Oregun.

C4 is good too !!!

Cheers TOF in Lost Wages

Doug,
I feel your pain. I’d love to send you the cat(s) that have been pooping in my RR, but unfortunately they aren’t mine to give. No hungry Coyote’s in your neck of the desert?

Rick

An old Pennsylvania Dutch farmer told me we would ‘evict’ his mice with some corn meal mixed with a little plaster of paris. Set it near where the ‘undocumented alien’ is invading your space, next to a small container of water. This is of course non poisonous to cats and dogs.

P.S. Squirrels can not open Ducolax bottle tops.

Google the “rodentator” on youtube… they work!
