Large Scale Central

It's time to smile

As mentioned in an other thread, UPS is such an amusing oufit … here’s a screen shot of their “refined routing”.

After that sightseeing trip to Spokane the parcel is now back at Richmond, BC. And the delivery time is back to Friday, last night it was going to be Monday next week. @ John Bouck: what was the weather like yesterday? good for sightseeing?   PS to paraphrase Kermit, the frog; “It isn’t easy being Big Brown”

Nope.
Gray overcast, wind and rain: the usual stuff…
Someone put it on the outgoing conveyor at Richmond, instead of incoming.

You just can’t get good help these days.

That’s what you call “follow the bouncing package!”

Did the Pony Express ever go to Canada?

Yes Doug, back in 1849 they had a Pony Express in Nova Scotia.

“follow the bouncing package” Does anyone remember the Gateway computers? Came in a big huge box ready to go? Cow colored? Back when I lived in the Buffalo NY area and worked part time at Niagara Hobbies a co-worker worked part time for OOPS and noted that when the weather was bad the pilots would refuse to taxi into the gate and they’d unload and re-load the plane by hand, sort of bucket brigade style. He noted at the time that those computer boxes made great “spring boards” between guys and were almost always insured. His word of advice was to NEVER order a computer online during inclement weather or near the holidays when the airports get backed up.

Chas

In the 40s-50s my grandfather sorted mail for the post office in Milwaukee, Wis. Back them tires were often sent by mail.

When the drivers would deliver to the sorters in the basement they would “deliver” the tires by rolling them down a ramp to see how far they could bounce them across the sorting room

H.J. Got any horses you could loan UPS?.

They gave you a tracking number and said you could track it. They didn’t say you would enjoy it.

So, let me get this straight, you make your train layout meander all over the place, and you are happy to see it. But let SOMEBODY else put one little jog in their path and it’s bad?

For shame, sir, I say FOR SHAME!

Oh, but my layouts always meander in a really organized manner. Something to do with “You can take a Swiss out of Switzerland, but you can’t take the Swiss out of him.”

They also had Voyageurs for things farther West. Six intrepid guys in a 25 ft canoe hauling cargo and mail.

That was the alternative, they tried to get the pony to paddle a canoe, but it didn’t work out.

They should have used dogs that dog paddle!

Or ponies that can swim, and then they can play water polo, too.

Well HJ, has it gotten any closer or gone back to Boise?

It cleared customs (may be) and left Richmond, BC (going where?). Does UPS stand for Unique Puzzle System?

A few years ago I had a package bounce between Worcester, MA (the local receiving point) and Westford (the local distribution point). It went back and forth every day for a week until a phone call to them got it on a delivery truck.

I should show mine some time.
UPS flies in to KCI, drives up hwy 29 past me to Omaha
drives past me again down hwy75 to Auburn NE
then past me back to Nebr city, then down to me by 2PM.

Parcel arrived, back to the grind stone.

And it was just getting fun…
