IT WORKS..!

I did my final bench test run of my box cab and all works    It runs as it should, the Phoenix sounds AWESOME, bell and horn works, light works. It’s ready to ride. I still have some detail work to do but she is ridable…   A week and a half to Labor Day weekend…Wheeeeeeeeeeee…!! Here’s a couple pix of it’s guts with batteries installed and its on blocks for it’s run. The second pic is a closeup of it’s motherboard. The Phoenix Soundsystem is at the top, and the speaker is the box below the motherboard and between the batteries.

Looks good! Now we need a video of it in action.

If all goes as planned, Jens Bang is going to video tape it. But he will most likely have to get his girlfriend’s permission :frowning:

My camera will take short vids but they are in .mov format. Not sure I can upload to You Tube in that format.

KEWL!!!

How on earth are you going to fit inside that tiny cab with all that circuitry in the way?

Looking forward to the vid

Yes you can. .mov is QuickTime, which is a fairly universal format for videos.

Congrats on the loco, too!

Later,

Warren,
Excellent work and thanks for all the detail of the build. I would think with those batteries right over the wheels, the traction should be pretty good.

I have not tried it yet, but from what I’ve heard from others, it’s a stump puller.

And where is the maiden voyage to be?

John, Joe McDermott’s on Labor Day, Monday Sept 3rd at 1:00 pm. I’ll be running and Joe will have his steamer up and running…and it will be anybodies guess who else will show up. Jens is suppose to take vids…if his girlfriend will let him go…

Hey Warren,

Where’s the seat on that thing? Seriously, though how heavy is it? Is it a two man job moving it? Will you be building your own track to run around?

I'll try to be there with my video camera.

The driver sits on a riding car (modified flat car). The locomotive breaks down so one person can handle it. The chassis weighs about 60lbs without the batteries. Batteries are about 45lbs each and the body weighs about 5 lbs. My riding car is also a 1 man handling job though a little awkward. It weighs about 65lbs but trying to handle a 6’ long car with my short arms is a chore…but do-able.

I’ve started on the layout in my back yard but have not gotten very far. Now that weather is getting cooler I may resume some of the work. My big problem right now is funds. If I spend too much I won’t have the bucks to go to Marty’s shindig…or as he calls it, Marty’s thingy.

Sheesh, you could have bought a D-SLR and finished the track? That must be one trip! :stuck_out_tongue:

Warren, I'll need the address, too.

Steve

I only get to see Marty and my internet LS friends once a year. I’d rather enjoy that weekend with friends than have more personal possessions.

Went over to Joe McDermott’s today and helped put down some ballast in preparation for next weekend. Brought the box cab along to do some final testing. It’s wheels touched rail for the first time… Joe and I took turns walking it on a short leash and getting a feel of how it runs. It seems to run smoothly and no jackrabbits or other idiosyncrasies. This week it will get it’s final detailing…ie: hand rails, grabs, windows and roof details. Then it will be ready for next Monday… Joe walking Pie Cart on a short leash…

Sweet! Seeing it next to a person gives a better sense of scale, it’s bigger than I imagined. Nice work. The electronics look complicated. Does it have radio control for non-riding operation, or is a driver required?

Do you get to smack the front end with a bottle of bubbly?
