ISO LGB Mogul boiler shell

Looking for at least one each of both the modern and the vintage boiler shells for the LGB Mogul. Vintage version has the fluted domes, which are separately applied pieces, and located in different locations from the modern version. The modern version has molded in rounded domes, but the mounting studs for the stepped walkway and studs for the airtank mounting.

I’m looking to get one of each so I can combine them into a single boiler for my mogul.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I had three LGB Moguls, the Red/Green original, the yellow with the fluted domes, and a black one that came unlettered with the rounded domes. Since I wanted the yellow to have the rounded domes and the black to have the fluted domes so I could paint them like the D&RGW narrow gauge engines 268 and 278. Now I do realize that these are moguls and the D&RGW are consolidations, but I would be lettering them to my own RR the Ft. Worth & South-Western, so I was ok with the wheel arrangement. I was going to take the Original red/green mogul and paint it as 271 which had the fluted domes, but after doing the other two I decided I didn’t need another mogul on my layout and sold it on eBay. As I was going to totally re-due these moguls I completely disassembled them, and re-did everything, including more detail, changing the tender to oil, and installing RailPro, plus a lot more. I will post some pics here and you get the idea what I did.

Jason,

The shells are hard to come by! Watch eBay, they break the Moguls down for parts all the time. Check with Trainli, communicate your needs, they have connections for all things LGB.

Your Mogul shell is not up for modifications?

Let me know if you don’t have any luck, I might be able to help. I have lots of used Moguls and parts, someday I’m gonna rebuild them.

I believe LGB only had three dome arrangements on their Moguls, I could be wrong on this, one rounded style and two fluted styles of domes on their boilers. Trackside Details has some done parts in brass, I didn’t use them, but I did order my detailing parts for them. I find it easier to just buy the engine I want and repaint and detail to my liking and sell what I don’t want, or think I will not use later down the road. I did find that trying to remove the glued on domes on the two moguls I re-did was impossible to do without destroying the domes, or the boiler, so I worked with what I had and moved the bell and generator to a place I liked better on the boiler. If it were me I would sand the fluted dome rings to the size of the dome and purchase the Trackside Details rounded dome tops, I think this would workout very well and get what you want, remember I think as a modeler, so it looks like a pretty easy job.
