Is ZIMO perfect?

No they’re not, but, I’ve had three sound decoders sitting on the shelf - there are times when other matters slow down the progress on several fronts - and when the time came to install and use we (Art and I) discovered a snag. In this case it was a matter of running the decoder for about ten minutes and it then refusing accepting commands i.e. no control at all. Reporting the serial numbers of the decoders in question to ZIMO had them reply “Please return for repairs and updates.”

The items are back with all the newest features e.g. larger sound memory and all the other updates. A big thank you to Art Lüscher and the ZIMO crew for prompt repairs and standing behind their product even when the product sat on the shelf in my workshop for several years.

Why go with the rest, when you can have the best?!

Hmm? Clearly not perfect if you have had 3 fail!

Nice you got good support, but honestly, 3 failures with command lockup?

Great service though.

Greg

The three decoders were all from same batch. No, I don’t know how large that batch was, but I’m very impressed how the warranty was handled - years after the purchase.

Yes, I do agree that Zimo is very good in customer service, and I deal with Train-Li for Zimo and Axel is a man of integrity.

Regards, Greg

Sounds like a reputable firm. At least they didn’t tell you it was a “design consideration”, or take it to the crusher on the loading dock.
I’d bet they don’t have someone on staff to call you up and yell at you.

All rhetorical, mind you.

Apparently not, they are genuinely interested in solving problems, when there are problems.

Not only that, since two of the “returned for repairs” decoders had already been loaded with Däppen files, they replaced them, too.

In my book that’s going the extra customer relations step.

BTW if you don’t like to be yelled at and like a good laugh … give me a call; whenever the mood strikes.

Tried that.
