Is it normal...

…for families involved in this hobby to get in a 2 week running argument over what to name a locomotive? Or are we unique in this? Just checking…

Eric

P.S. Quick edit to make the point this was meant in good fun! I am glad everyone remains engaged.

In regards to ‘Normal’ I’m not qualified, but to the extent of the ‘enjoyment quotient’ I think you’re where you’re supposed to be.

Define “normal” in this hobby.

I asked the question “what is normal?” for years, People would give me the definition of average. When I asked my cousin Amy, she had the best answer and so I quit asking the question. She told me that normal is a setting on the clothes dryer.

Why not name the locomotive what you want to name it, and then note that it is A.K.A. as _____

Or "normal " in family …no that doesn’t work either… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

“Normal” isn’t normal anymore !

I love that answer!

It’s whatever it is, and it’s probably a good sign that everyone has strong feelings about this - at least they are interested!

How about a compromise - it could be very weird, but take a piece of each name and combine them into one? One that maybe everyone will feel part of…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Hey! I thought I got to name your loco!

I’ve always been partial to the Mad Magazine character named Fester Bestertester.

“He” faintly resembles me, before my later-in-life makeover, and inspired me to shave, and trim my toenails.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks, all, I have had a good laugh at the experience and your responses! The “arguments” have all been in good fun around here, I assure you!

I still don’t get that last one. Spell check?

.

Pete;

It was another elixir sold by the Geratol folks back in the day. The name is Natures spelled backwards. Don’t know where the extra A came from. Perhaps Spell Check did try to put something in there. Rebos is the name for AA meeting places. It is Sober spelled backwards (which is what AA works to achieve).

Sorry for the confusion. Just noting that Rooster spelled Normal backwards.

Best, David Meashey

How about engines, I once wanted to name my Forney Kate.
