Iron Mountain Ore car

Im looking and some new rolling stock that would look good pulled behind my LGB Porter (the one from the value starter set) They need to be light since it is not the best puller. I really like the iron mounatin ore car (A bit pricy for me) Is there anyone else that makes something similar? If not my other choice is the Bachmann wood ore car.

Just an Idea! http://www.trains.com/grw/default.aspx?c=a&id=1381

Aristo two axle cars - flat, gondola and tank cars are pretty light. Need to stick metal wheels on them. There is also the boxcar and bobber but they might look out of scale.

Shawn,

$42 per car for the level of detail and with metal wheels included in the AMS cars isn’t really bad at all. Besides how many would you need to pull behind a small Porter?

I believe that Ozark has the bogies for four wheel freight cars available in white metal castings as well as link and pin couplers if you should desire to scratch build your own…another possibly more economical option.

I agree with Richard, it would be a fun scratch-building project. Ozark has the “Fully sprung pedestal journal, flap lid”, 4 for $12. It looks like it would be pretty straight forward to make these.

Do you guys by chance have the direct link to this? That would be a good idea and more cost effective.

I agree it is not a bad price for the level of detail and quality. I guess it is more Im too cheap to spend that much per car LOL. I was thinking 3-4 cars would do. I also like your idea using ozark bogies. I will have to look at that. Thanks

Caboose Hobbies lists a couple of Accu Iron Mnts for $30 a pop.

You may not save a lot by building them, but I bet you’ll enjoy them more! You can’t link direct to those journals. Just type in “fully sprung pedestal” and you’ll see a couple of them:
