Iron Horse Engraving

At the ECLSTS there was a booth for Iron Horse Engraving, which I had never seen there before. He had a lot of EBT engines that he had laser engraved on wood, along with logos for different railroads. I thought it was a novel idea. I grabbed a business card and when I got home I emailed him for a quote on a few pictures. As an after thought I also asked him for a quote for the RGS sunrise logo in black granite. The price he quoted me was under $200 for all 3 which I thought was reasonable.

Very Nice, I’m assuming the #455 is your loco on your layout.

Ken, they look great…

Hey Ken, thanks very much for the reviews. While I’m not affiliated with I.H.E., I do know the proprietor and he is a really good guy.

Due to the needs of his job, he had never been able to attend the ECLSTS until this year, even though he has an awesome outdoor layout. So what does he end up doing? His first show is as a dealer, lol.

I have a picture of a PRR engine he did complete with a laser-cut wooden stand for the picture as well as a 4"w x 5"t laser cut & burned version of the PRR keystone, both of which I got at our club dinner last year.

With his laser system, he is helping me develop a custom laser-cut flared radiator for a diesel project I have in the works. Because they will be laser cut, I’ll be able to get two matching radiator sections for the twin GP-45-TGX units for my road. If these work out, we are talking about designing a retrofit kit for the USA 70MAC to add flared radiators like on the modern 70-2’s and 70-ACe’s.

For those of the narrow gauge persuasion, he has a complete EBT caboose kit which includes full interior. This is a laser-cut, fully assemble-able kit, with a removable roof (itself an engineering masterpiece since it uses a roof over ribs structure) to be able to show off the decorated interior. Here is a pic of one of the cabeese, assembled, traveling behind his shay on his layout:

And soon, he’ll be adding pictures of the NKP 765 on its travels through Altoona last year as well as from its trips next month.

Yea, that’s my 455 running on Doug Mathesons layout up in Canada back in 2011.

J.D., you gave a better review then I did…

John was extremely helpful with his suggestions when I sent him the pix. The bridge picture had a bit of background noise (trees and leaves) that he managed to crop out of the picture.

Here’s the original photo taken by Chris Lyons during the 2011 Invasion:

You can see the amount of “noise” he cropped out.

Now I’m looking for another pic to send him, different engine in a different scene.

That is really cool – I hadn’t realized that was your model!

I wish I had a place for a granite sign - that would be so neat outside with my logo on it.

And that EBT caboose kit looks great as well. Too bad I have more than enough cabooses.

Pretty cool, Ken. Love the picture of 455.

The EBT caboose kit, what’s the full story on them? Interesting.

I’m going to see if I can find one of those hangers they use for hanging plates on the wall (if they still make them) and just put it outside near the walk when people come around to run trains. I wouldn’t leave it out there all the time.

He had them at the train show. Looked pretty good to me…

…winking…

Really nice pieces Ken. The 455 in the bridge shot is great

It was a laser cut kit in 1:20.3, I believe. Very nice piece! When I spoke to him, he stated he was going to expand his collection of offers. He actually said, it was pretty easy to even do custom work. I’d say Ken’s picture show the results.

Yes - me too!

I saw his booth at the show and really considered his laser burned EBT herald, but rolling stock won my $

Did anyone catch the price on the EBT Caboose kit? Is it just the body?
